Batwoman “Rebirth” Review

Season 2 Episode 16 – When a familiar foe descends upon Gotham, Batwoman and Mary find they must rely on each other more than ever; Alice has a new mission and gets an unexpected ally to join her.

What I Liked

1. It’s nice to see Wallis Day as Kate in full form now. I do like all the background stories they’ve thrown in to make it work, and weirdly it actually does. Day is going to be a great Kate Kane!

2. Ocean acting as if it’s all normal when he and Jacob are introduced was hilarious, there isn’t much more to say on that scene but I liked how old-fashioned he was meeting his “girlfriend’s” father.

3. “This isn’t your fight, Batwoman” “Why? Because I can fight back?” I liked that, especially after Tatiana just brutally murdered a blind dude. 3. Ocean acting as if it’s all normal when him and Jacob are introduced was hilarious, there isn’t much more to say on that scene but I liked how old fashioned he was meeting his “girlfriends” father.

4. Mr. John Diggle has arrived in Gotham!! As Luke goes to the bar Tavaroff is in, and they have an intense conversation, but ends fairly quickly and abruptly – Diggle just shows up out of nowhere.

5. The arrogance from Luke when he beats Tavaroff at poker even after Tavaroff cheats is incredible. It’s not just the fact he beat him in such a genius way, it’s the fact that Luke is showing pure bravery in standing up to his attacker.

6. Kate seems to be having mixed memories, but I loved the fact she just stabbed Black Mask in the hand. Saffiyah then intervenes and explains that a woman has a choice of who she wants to be – this is definitely heating up for the final 2 episodes.

What I Disliked

Ocean is dead again? Is it strange that I literally just do not care? This is about 5 times this season. If he’s dead now then that should be it and let the story go on, because it’s getting boring now.

Favourite Moment

Oh, how I’ve missed John. As a side note, he really does deserve his very own season. But, on this occasion, Luke and Tavaroff eventually come to blows with obviously Tavaroff on top raining down haymakers. John steps and deals one strike to the chest making Tavaroff look like an idiot, and mentions that he knows. I absolutely loved this scene.

Standout Character

I’m giving it to Diggle. After all, he is the cameo of this week’s episode and the one character we have been looking forward to seeing again. It’s nice to know he’s still within the Arrowverse, and still has a story to tell. As I mentioned earlier, I do hope The CW gives him a show.

Verdict

A great episode that further pushed the story into the final run of the season. There was a lot to shout about, especially with the return of John Diggle.
