5 Marvel Characters Who Deserve Their Own Insomniac Game

Insomniac is now less than two weeks away from delivering its brand-new AAA title, Marvel’s Wolverine. It’s an exciting time for Marvel fans, especially considering the studio has already smashed it out of the park with Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 and Miles Morales.

With Wolverine next in line to receive the Insomniac treatment, we’ve decided to look beyond Logan and pick five Marvel characters we believe the studio could potentially deliver incredible games for.

1. Black Panther

Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will portray Black Panther, but it feels like that game is still a million years away at this stage. Black Panther is a character that could easily work for Insomniac, especially when you consider the potential of utilising Wakandan technology and the different suits you could use throughout the game. Everything we’ve seen from the mechanics of Wolverine could easily translate into a Black Panther game, while still giving Insomniac plenty of room to make it feel unique.

2. Blade

Blade’s been in development hell for a long time. With the issues surrounding the movie and now the video game, it feels like Blade can’t catch a break, yet he’s still one of Marvel’s most iconic characters. Insomniac could definitely do wonders with the character and make a game that actually makes an impact. There are so many avenues they could explore with Blade in terms of the story, from hunting vampires to exploring the darker and more supernatural side of the Marvel universe.

3. Ghost Rider

I think it’s time for Ghost Rider to make his debut within the video game franchise. I think we’re seeing the start of Insomniac Games’ brutality. First, you had the brutalness of Spider-Man- you know, the hard-hitting finishers to the bad guys; next, you have the brutality of Wolverine. Ghost Rider should fit this category; seeing them delve into the mystic and magic world would be insane, and just imagine driving around as Johnny Blaze or Robbie Reyes.

4. Deadpool

Deadpool had a game back in the day, and for some reason that game is still highly loved. The game is also still very expensive due to the game no longer being on digital platforms. I think with Deadpool now being in the MCU, and the love that Deadpool receives pretty much 24/7, I think if Insomniac Games gets their hands on this character, they would do wonders with it. Deadpool recently received a VR game, and that was done really well, so I think a game with similar mechanics to Wolverine would be perfect.

5. Thor

This is a character that’s already proven he can play well. Despite the criticism Marvel’s Avengers received, Thor was one of the few characters who genuinely felt good to play. Thor also had his own God of Thunder game back in 2011, but that came during an era where video games were a lot simpler than they are now. Thor is a draw, whichever way you look at it. He’s one of the biggest Avengers, one of the most popular Norse Gods in the world and, well… it’s Thor. The possibilities are endless for what Insomniac could do with him, especially if they explored the Nine Realms rather than limiting the game to Earth.

Honourable mention – The Fantastic Four

I feel like The Fantastic Four need a video game again. I remember playing the movie tie-in game back in the day, and that was super fun. If the game has a feature where we could choose a member of the Fantastic Four and then allow us to make decisions, and have the same mechanic as Sabretooth or Mystique jumping in and helping Wolverine and leaving would be perfect for a Fantastic Four game. I feel like seeing their power sets would also be incredible.
