The CW’s Flash show has always been, and always will remain as one of my all-time favorite shows. Grant Gustin’s portrayal of Barry Allen made me such a huge fan of the character, so the show will always be close to my heart.
Seasons 1 to 3 for me personally was perfect. Even despite a lot of people being iffy with the Savitar storyline, I loved it.
But since then, it’s had moments that blew me away but for the most part, I feel like it’s just become bang average. Especially in the past year or two.
The villains are forgettable, the stories are often messy, the character development has gone down the toilet and the CGI – Jesus wept.
The villains for me have been a big one. Let’s look at it.
The reveal with Reverse Flash. Zoom killing Barry’s dad after he’s released from prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Savitar turned out to be a remnant and was on the verge of killing Iris. Then, literally, no villain has made that big of an impact since.
The Thinker was boring. Cicada was great until Grace took the mantle. Then after that without Googling it or thinking too much, I’ve actually forgotten who came after it.
This season so far has been horrific too.
Granted, we know we have some great things to look forward to with the current season. Impulse, Nora’s returning, Godspeed is back so the potential is there for the show to have a super-strong final half of the season.
The question to the article is obvious – it absolutely can. Look at the magic the showrunners are doing with Superman & Lois, look at what they’ve managed to do with The Flash in the past – they definitely can.
The Flash is a hero with so many stories, side characters, villains that it’s not hard at all to find a story and run with it – but it needs an injection.
The side characters at the minute are bringing nothing to the table for me, even Caitlin and Cisco and they’re two of my favorite characters on the show.
I always held back writing an article like this because I do love the show so much, I just badly want it to do well.
The potential storyline with Godspeed would be enough to bring it back into the mainstream light. And that’s what worries me, when the show was back in seasons 1-3, almost every one of my friends who loves superheroes watched the show.
Now, you just don’t hear people talk about it anymore and it’s so sad to see it go the way it’s gone. Even when The CW post any form of promotional material on their social media platforms, it’s met with such disdain from fans it’s awful.
You obviously get the die-hard fans that will defend the show no matter what – I mean, I used to be one of them. Now I don’t, because the complaints from people ring so true now.
I know that I may contradict myself but despite everything, I will always continue watching the show and supporting the cast members no matter what. But I do believe the show can be better and should do better.
