What I Liked
1. We waste no time getting back into things. Matt is rocking the black suit we’ve seen in the trailers, and he looks fantastic. He’s aboard the Northern Star ship and begins to Batman multiple armed guards on there. It’s as brutal as it’s always been, it’s as great as it’s always been. Welcome back, Daredevil.
2. Matt and Karen appear to be back together, and Karen is seemingly assisting Matt in his vigilante adventures. She was aware of the Northern Star being sunk as a result of Daredevil. They share an embrace and a romantic moment. I’m so glad to see her properly back in the fold.
3. Heather is seemingly conducting a psychological evaluation of the Swordsman, but is hallucinating by seeing Muse in the background. I’m intrigued to see where this will go, even more so considering his stepdaughter is Kate Bishop.
4. The Anti-Vigilante Task Force is still more brutal and ruthless than ever. They genuinely feel like a fearsome entity as they literally do not care. They just casually punch women in the face because they can. I can’t wait for them to receive their comeuppance at some point.
5. I do like the new addition of Mr. Charles. His discussions with Wilson and Vanessa were intriguing as he discussed logistics on the Northern Star ship. He mentioned how to get the items from the ship comfortably, but discusses effectively killing the crew that does it after. I’m curious as to what his role truly is; he does mention working for someone else, so I’m looking forward to seeing who that is.
What I Disliked
The suit. It feels like a big deal, but it isn’t. The new suit is beautiful, and it was hyped up towards the end of last season, and he just came into the season wearing it. I would’ve loved to see him go through the process of making it and putting it on, even if it was a quick sequence.
Favorite Moment
Cherry gets hit by the Anti-Vigilante Task Force as they breach his property without a warrant. After several hits, he still manages to maintain his composure before Daredevil swoops in to save the day. He takes out the 2 agents with relative ease, but it would appear Cherry is having a heart attack. More agents enter the room, Daredevil makes easy work of them initially until he gets flashbacks of Foggy dying after hearing my Cherry’s heart. They actually manage to unmask Matt until none other than Bullseye saves the day. What a scene!
Standout Character
Matt Murdock. It’s quite literally as simple as that. He smashed it this episode. The fight sequences at the beginning of the episode and at the end were incredibly well done, as they always are with this series. I really enjoyed seeing Daredevil back on my screen again.
Verdict
A solid opening to the second season. Disney continues to show us that in the right hands, they can make a project work, and they can make it dark. This is exactly the vibe that’s continuing this season with the occasional F-bomb, brutal action scenes, and no filter on the gruesomeness of some of the injuries. I’m so happy we’re getting more Daredevil content.
