What I Liked

1. The opening scene see’s everyone in the aftermath of Thomas Wayne trying and failing to kill his wife, Martha. Alfred returns to his office when he is immediately met by Thomas’s father and is given the unlikely task of breaking Thomas out of the London Tower. A small thing in this scene was Alfred saying “what can I do to help you, Mr. Wayne.” it reminded me of Michael Caine.

2. Lucious Fox giving Alfred a very “early days” prototype Batgrapple is actually really genius. The way they are using stuff that Batman himself will use in the future is really great. Well played.

3. Alfred does have a point. What would Thomas do, he’s a wanted man. Alfred is wanting to finish the job of getting Thomas out of the country and he’ll be a millionaire. Daveboy goes on his date while the CIA enacts “Operation Scortchearth”.

4. Alfred truly shows his smarts. He knew that someone with his father would be the main person behind the whole drug operation. So he calls the police to come and arrest them because of his arrest warrant. While the CIA is on their way to kill Martha, they walk into Aziz and a task force of police protecting Martha.

5. THAT ENDING. What the hell just happened? What was this crossover between Pennyworth and V for Vendetta? One of the best-selling collected editions in DC history has just made its debut on Pennyworth. I AM SHOCKED.

What I Disliked

1. Aziz knows how useful and how incredible Alfred is to get any job done that he sets his mind to or has been hired to do. Why is Aziz not allowing Alfred to get close to the investigation? I thought Aziz would have been going straight to Alfred.

2. Unless the story revolving around Mary and her getting back into the dating scene isn’t leading up to connecting to the CIA storyline I have no interest in it. I get that she wants to get back out there after the death of Alfred’s father but It’s not needed.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would be Alfred and Daveboy breaking into the Tower to free Thomas Wayne. They use another gadget by Lucious and it takes a second to work much to Daveboys amusement. They manage to get Thomas out but when they are at the finish line, the alarm begins to sound.

Standout Character

Alfred. He’s just such a great character in literally every single scene that he’s in. This is only made greater by what Jack Bannon has done with this character. He’s made Alfred such a fantastic character and has become one of my favorite DC characters.

Verdict

This was a fantastic episode. Fully of funny moments, some action, and an insane amount of mind games by Alfred. It was fantastic and the ending had me shocked by who it debuted. We are getting a crossover with Pennyworth and V for Vendetta. WHAT!!!
