Pennyworth “The Bloody Mary” Review

Season 2 Episode 7 “While Alfred prepares to depart England for good, Bet and Peggy Sykes set out to rescue their old friend Lord Harwood from imminent danger.”

What I Liked?

1. Thomas and Lucius know that Stormcloud is close to being used on the people of England. They are talking to the CIA about stepping in and stopping it by force. The US government won’t do that and tell Thomas that he mustn’t tell anyone about it.

2. Gully tries to recruit Alfie into doing another job, initially, Alfie refuses multiple times, Gully tries to figure out if Alfie is hiding something from him. Gully knows that Alfie slept with Melanie but doesn’t reveal that he does. Gully is a weirdly interesting character.

3. The girl Alfie has had a thing for since the beginning of the show is singing in his club, she starts singing and a group of soldiers sing louder, but then the entire club starts singing with the girl, Alfie in this time realizes that he can not leave England, and I think he realizes that he might actually love this girl.

4. Gully heads home and gets into an argument with Melanie, she tells him that she slept with Alfie and that she enjoyed it. They get into a fight with Gully throwing her around the living room, Melanie then ends up stabbing Gully in the leg, arm, and neck.

5. Thomas and Lucius make a plan to get the US to intervene in the Civil War that’s happening in England. They decide to tell Martha about Stormcloud which in turn she’d tell Aziz and then they’d know about the weapon. Thomas and Lucius would then deny any knowledge of how she found the information.

What I Disliked?

1. Oh boy, where to start with my first dislike of the episode? It has to be with Alfie, he’s going on about going to America all season and has mentioned it in every episode. He’s done countless jobs to get money to go there, even promised Bazza, when he gets to the plane, he decides he can’t go because England is his home? This is a joke. Such a wasted story.

2. Lord Harwood. This man has only done one single thing this entire season and that was to kill one person. He gets put on house arrest and then gets brutally shot by his own men? what a wasted character, they built him up to be some bad villain but nothing happened with him.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment comes from one of my dislikes. I hated how Alfie refused to go to America, but I also now like that he’s “officially” joined the Civil War and is working with Martha and Aziz.

Standout Character

Thomas Wayne. Think this could be his first standout character moment. He chose to stay and fight with Martha.

The Verdict

Honestly, This might be my worst episode to date just purely based on decisions from the story and writers. Why mention America in every episode if he’s just going to stay when he’s got one foot on the plane? Super annoying. Lord Harwood? What happened? I was expecting a great villain but he was completely wasted.

Okay

Disliked the way the story went this episode, such a waste of time, and the Lord Harwood character was wasted even more.
