Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord “Chapter 4: Pride and Vengeance” Review

Season 1 Episode 4 – “A confrontation between Lawson and Maul threatens everyone.”

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. The episode begins with Maul immediately slaughtering the Pike Syndicate. Vario stuns “Maul” to give to the Pike leader. This is all a disguise because it’s not Maul, it’s actually one of his henchmen. Maul then arrives and continues the slaughter.

2. Devon wants her and her master to go take Maul to justice, as they are Jedi. Her master believes that this is the cause of her need for vengeance, but it’s not. She convinces her master to become a protector of the galaxy once again.

3. Lawson walks into one of Maul’s traps. Maul offers Lawson his “protection” because they both would rather not have any Imperial intrusion. Maul knows Lawson would not contact the Empire. Devon and her master arrive to find Maul.

4. I loved the tease of the Empire in this. All it needed was seeing the back of the Star Destroyer, and you know the season is going to be crazy going forward.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report.

Favorite Moment

Maul knew Devon would return with her master; he knew they came to kill him, but Master Daki offered Maul a chance to surrender, much to the surprise of Devon. Maul takes on both Devon and Master Daki. Maul nearly kills Daki, but he is saved by Devon.

Standout Character

I have to give this to Maul once again. Honestly, in these episodes, there is no one better than Maul.

Verdict

This episode was really good. Story-wise, it didn’t need much of a story; the story was minimal but still very good. The action was where it shone, especially with the duel between Maul, Master Daki, and Devon. The little tease of the Empire was crucial, too. It didn’t need to be overdone, and it did it perfectly.
