Stargirl “Frenemies – Chapter Twelve: The Last Will and Testament of Sylvester Pemberton” Review

Season 3 Episode 12 – As the team devises a plan to deal with their latest threat, Sylvester takes matters into his own hands and leaves Courtney, Pat and the JSA fearing for what comes next.

What I Liked

1. Totally here for Sylvester’s attitude in regard to Jordan. His talk with Artimus was very sweet as he tells her that her parents would’ve wanted her to become the Star they knew she could be. When Artimus thinks this means he wants her to let Jordan get away with what he’s done, Sylvester tells her he’s going to kill him for her.

2. Absolutely loved Sylvester telling Beth and Yolanda to find people to take on the mantles of the JSA members who didn’t have a bloodline, such as Spectre, Dr. Fate, The Flash, and more! This would’ve been huge for the show if they pulled that off so it’s such a shame this is our final season.

3. Courtney’s words about Pat being her hero were so sweet but the scene ended a bit more abruptly after Sylvester takes the staff from Courtney, despite her best efforts, the staff chose Sylvester.

What I Disliked

Favorite Moment

I have absolutely no idea how to feel about the reveal of Starman being the Ultra Humanite but I have to take appreciation for how impressed I am. Like I just did not see that coming at all. Honestly, I sat here thinking they came up with this last minute as a cop-out but nah those flashback scenes basically explained every single moment since Sylvester’s return and I just can’t wrap my head around it. It feels like a giant prank that’s kind of annoyed me but really impressed me. Wow.

Standout Character

I mean, it has to be Sylvester once again. For me, this guy has been like a favorite since he returned and it wasn’t even him who returned. What a way to throw viewers off balance man. Also, his acting was impeccable. The way Joel McHale just completely switched that up towards the end there was brilliant.

Verdict

This episode has wholly thrown me which I love. I love to be a bit confused and taken aback by an episode. It means it had an impact so well played.
