The Boys “Barbary Coast” Review

Season 3 Episode 3 – “Tonight at 9/8C on Vought Plus, it’s the season finale of #AmericanHero. Three contestants remain, but only TWO will join #TheSeven. Will Starlight choose her old flame Supersonic? Or will someone else be moving into the Seven Tower?”

What I Liked

1. Hughie as Kimiko to break his arm so that Victoria would not suspect a thing about him knowing about her, her abilities, and who she truly is. Mothers Milk tells Kimiko where to break his arm so there’s no permanent damage. This scene was absolutely disgusting cause you saw the bone break, which I personally felt.

2. The Boys go and speak to Grace about Soldier Boy and 1984. She explains that she was tasked with smuggling cocaine into America and selling it to buy more guns. The US threw a spanner in the works by sending a group of Supes down there, including Soldier Boy, Black Noir, Crimson Countess, and Gunpowder with a couple more. In this flashback, we also see a young unmasked Black Noir.

3. This new Homelander, the one who actually admitted on live TV that he doesn’t care and that he’s better than everyone I absolutely love. Starlight threatens him with the plane video, and he tells her to release it, he explains his plan when he does get released. He’ll take out the White House, and infrastructure then will wipe out New York City simply because he wants to.

4. Butcher is going through withdrawal symptoms cause of the Temp-V he took. You can see how very similar it is to someone going through drug withdrawals. I wonder if this will be a major factor for Butcher throughout the rest of the season. I know that it’s probably the withdrawal but Butcher absolutely destroyed the kid he was meant to be protected with one simple line “maybe I don’t want to look at you for killing my Becca.”

What I Disliked

When Homelander invited the Deep back into the Seven. The way Homelander, Ashley, and The Deep’s wife, Cassandra were eating the seafood was absolutely disgusting. I felt sick watching the scene.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment was the flashback ambush. Seeing the camp get overrun by soldiers was brutal, people dying left, right, and center. Seeing Soldier Boy in action was great, seeing some Supes like Swatter being killed, seeing how Black Noir got the burns and scars he did. With this weapon they “supposedly” killed Soldier Boy, they also took his body?

Standout Character

Homelander. He truly is menacing. On live TV he exposes Starlight and pretends that she is in a relationship with him. Honestly, becoming one of my favorite villains.

Verdict

Again, not a lot of action, but the story truly made up for it. Excited for the rest of the season and what is to come involving Homelander. Butcher seems to be spiraling because of the Temp-V. The flashback scene involving Soldier Boy and Black Noir was crazy insane.
