The Boys “The Instant White-Hot Wild” Review

Season 3 Episode 8 – “Calling all patriots. Let’s show Homelander we’ve got his back and we’re not going to let Starlight and her House of Horrors get away with trafficking children and drinking their adrenaline. It’s time for real Americans to fight back.”

What I Liked

1. Queen Maeve is a badass. She’s being gassed to keep her sedated in transport, her being the badass she escapes, kills the soldiers there, and escapes. Small quick scene but she’s free and she’s out for revenge.

2. Butcher “finally” doing what is right and protecting Hughie, although punching him in the face and locking him in a gas station bathroom might not be the best way to go about it. Butcher did tell Hughie that he was very similar to his little brother.

3. Any scene with Karl Urban and Jensen Ackles together is just pure magic. The chemistry between the two is absolutely great and I would watch any show with these two as the main stars. A “buddy-cop” TV series or movie would be hilarious.

4. Homelander is truly snapping. This is the beginning. He killed Noir, he then went and spoke with Ashley, Deep, and A-Train. He tells them they are not needed. He makes Ashley remove her wig to reveal her true hair that’s been ravaged by her pulling it out. He tells Deep to go and kill a political person while he asks A-Train how he could kill one of his own.

5. Soldier Boy hits Ryan in front of Butcher. Maeve knows this is going to go wrong, Butcher and Homelander team up to laser vision Soldier Boy. Maeve begins attacking Homelander while Soldier Boy and Butcher get into a fight in the TV studio.

6. Kimiko gets ready to protect Frenchie from soldiers that are coming to stop them. She puts in her AirPods and begins listening to “Maniac” while fighting the guards. Homelander and Maeve are still going at it with Homelander even poking Maeve’s eye causing her to bleed.

7. Soldier Boy is charging his power up to kill everyone in the room instead of going back to prison, Maeve sees this happening, she stabs Homelander in the ear with a straw and flies out of the window with Soldier Boy, causing a massive explosion outside of the building, killing Soldier Boy and herself. Maeve has a remembrance on TV because the public thinks she has been killed, but she’s alive, Maeve has retired and is planning to go somewhere Homelander can not find her. We also find out Soldier Boy is still alive, although sedated.

8. With Butcher’s need for Temp-V, he’s essentially given himself a life sentence. That life sentence is 12 months, maybe 18 at max. What will happen to Butcher next season?

9. Homelander flies down and introduces his son to his fans. A Starlight fan hits Ryan with a can so Homelander laser’s his head clean off in front of hundreds of civilians… Homelander is shocked when the fans begin chanting for Homelander. This is a new turning point for Homelander, he now thinks that he can do anything and the population will be on his side.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment came when Homelander and Black Noir speak about Soldier Boy. Homelander speaks about Soldier Boy being his father, he mentions that he knows when Black Noir is smiling, telling the truth, lying, etc. Black Noir tells Homelander that they need to kill Soldier Boy. Homelander asks Black Noir if he knew Soldier Boy was his father, Noir nods in a yes motion, and Homelander begins to tear but before punching a hole in Noir’s stomach pulling out some intestines. While Noir is bleeding out and dying on the floor, the cartoons appear crying and telling Noir that he’ll be with Christ soon. I’m actually heartbroken that Noir is dead, I truly hope not.

Standout Character

Honestly, I will give this to Maeve. She went toe-to-toe with Homelander, stopped Soldier Boy, and saved The Boys. Not to mention that she outplayed Homelander by surviving the blast and going off with her girlfriend.

Verdict

Honestly, an impactful yet action-packed shockingly excellent finale. The story of the season wrapped up nicely with an intense fight sequence between literally everyone. The finale was bloody to save the least and had some shocking deaths. Overall, one of the best seasons on a TV show yet.
