The Flash “Hear No Evil” Review

Season 9 Episode 2 – “Barry feels guilty for what happened to Caitlin; Mark comes up with a plan that makes everyone skeptical; Red Death looms in Central City and commands that failure is not an option; old friends pay an unexpected visit to S.T.A.R. Labs.”

What I Liked

1. I loved the scene between Joe and Cecile. Joe wants to do what’s best for his family, and that is leaving Central City. I fully agree with him, Cecile is a mother first, and she’s just putting that on the back burner so she can play hero when there are better heroes in the city.

2. It’s nice to see Hartley back again. Feels like it has been a little while since we’ve had the Pied Piper on the series. It’s also great seeing him use his abilities and tech again. He might not be everyone’s favorite character but I enjoy him for what he does.

3. Mark and Snow are finally caught out. Snow slips up with her speech in front of Barry and the team. While I don’t truly like Mark, he does have a point that he had to keep things quiet about working to get Frost to return.

4. I do like how Barry got everyone in the group to state their choice of who to bring back, Frost or Caitlin. Mark, Allegra, and Iris all choose Frost, while Chester and Barry seemingly choose Caitlin I’m sorry but it’s Caitlin all day long. Frost made a choice to sacrifice herself to SAVE Caitlin, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she knew it was either her or Caitlin.

What I Disliked

1. Firstly, this new “Snow” sister. This whole story for Caitlin/Frost/Snow is stupid. It’s such a bad payoff from the sacrifice that Frost made last season. I would have loved Caitlin to go back to being Caitlin and being that voice of reason in Star Labs.

2. Does this Snow character just appear in random scenes in this episode? No matter what the scene is, she just appears. Doesn’t make sense.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would be the reason why Captain Boomerang and The Fiddler took Pied Piper’s gauntlets, to bring Red Death fully onto this world, stable, and ready to cause havoc. We finally get to see the suit for Red Death. It is amazing.

Standout Character

I’ll have to give this to Snow, although she just appeared in scenes randomly, she did speak a lot of wisdom so I’ll give that to her. I am curious to see where this story takes her.

Verdict

Overall, the main story of the episode was lackluster compared to the story of Pied Piper. I was so much more interested in that compared to the Mark, Snow, and Caitlin/Frost storyline. The action was a little bit underwhelming as well.
