Season 3 Episode 1 – The Mandalorian begins an important journey.

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. We knew from The Book of Boba Fett that Din is setting his sights on Mandalore to bathe in the living waters to atone for his sins. We learn in the show the planet may not be as doomed as one thought as a traveler manages to grab a crystal from the surface. It’s very interesting and I’m super excited to see Mandalore in live-action, especially after the destruction by the Emperor.

2. A statue dedicated to IG-11 in Nevarro was a lovely touch. I know we saw this in the trailer but seeing it in the actual show was beautiful.

3. Grogu spinning himself around in the chair using the force. That’s all. That’s the like.

4. A group of pirates decides to start a fight with the High Magistrate, Greef. An absolute mistake when Din Djarin is just standing there watching. Greef manages to stop the pirate from mouthing off but then Din decides to take it further and takes out 4 of them in a second. What a guy.

5. After Din leaves Nevarro to find the part to fix IG-11, he’s chased by the same pirate from earlier with his friends. Of course, they stood no chance. The actual leader of the group shows up demanding he gives up his ship. This is why I love the ship Din has now. It’s so fast and agile. He was able to escape that standoff in seconds and be alright.

6. Getting to see a Mandalorian castle in live-action is something I never thought I’d see. I’m glad Bo-Katan is back, I’m excited to see what her plans and intentions are this season.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

What a fantastic start to the season. It’s great to have the show back. We see a young boy being initiated into the Mandalorian creed until they’re all attacked by a massive monster. We see the Mandalorian’s work together to try and defeat it. They struggle until Din Djarin decides to swing on by and annihilates it within seconds. Shivers. Literal shivers.

Standout Character

It’s obviously Din Djarin. He’s the star of the show and the episode. It was so great to see him back on our screens again. I could sit here all day and write about how he is the standout of the episode but by watching it, you know immediately it’s him.

Verdict

A fantastic episode which is to be expected with this show now. The Mandalorian has truly set the tone with TV series, not just in the Star Wars franchise but overall. At Comic Universe, we’ve reviewed all 17 episodes to date and every single one of them has received a 10/10 score.
