TITANS “Deathstroke” Review

Season 2 Episode 5 “With the team in disarray, Dick and the others vow to do everything in their power to save Jason’s life. Gar’s guilt over Jason’s kidnapping complicates the mission, while Rachel’s dark secret continues to gnaw at her.”

What Was Good?

1. The episode starts with Jason waking up in Dr Light’s base, he lures Dr Light over and immediately chokes him out and tries to escape but runs straight into Deathstroke. This was great to see because Jason done what exactly Bruce and Dick taught him to do if he was ever to be captured.

2. Now, in this next point i’ll tell you exactly why it’s a good point and it’s to do with Deathstroke and how he thinks ahead and how brilliant his mind is because he makes the Titans argue and play right into his hands to learn something about Jason.. like the tracker implanted in Jason.

Deathstroke ring’s the Titans and they hear Jason say something to Deathstroke which causes Deathstroke to beat Jason which infuriates Hank. This was incredible to witness because it showed a different side to Hank the brute. It showed us that he cares for other people instead of just Dawn. Hank is quickly becoming one of the better characters on the show.

3. The OG Titans are talking and filling in Kory about the situation and past events when Rose listens in on them which she hears Hank wanting to give her to Deathstroke for Jason which causes Rose to flip out and try to escape. Rose runs into Hank which the two fight until Dawn interrupts leading to Rose getting away from Hank and running into Rachel.

Rachel and Rose get into a fight with Rose winning until Rachels demons take control and attack Rose throwing her to the ground then onto a pillar breaking Rose bones. Dawn checks on Rose to see if she’s still alive and she is then we see Rose healing factor kick in and snap her bones back together.

4. Dick gathers the OG Titans and new Titans to make a plan, Dick puts Rachel and Gar on Rose duty and tells the rest to go to the plaza to keep watch for Deathstroke. Dick makes a mistake by having a chat to Kory which sounded like a goodbye chat.

What Was Bad?

1. Rachel is still not fully in control of her powers when she’s sleeping. She is surrounded by her demon energy which are like razor blades and they cut Gar’s wrist when he tries to wake her.

2. Dawn tells Dick to end the Titans and shut the Titans Tower down other wise she’ll burn it to the ground herself after they’ve finished with Deathstroke. This made me angry, while the OG Titans did mess up and didn’t exactly win the first time around, Dick is obviously grew since then and learned some new stuff and with this new group of Titans the place would be better off with them there.

Holy Shit Moment

1. We learn this episode that Deathstroke takes no shit from anyone. After Dr Light argues and leaves and goes off from the plan, Deathstroke finds Jason tracker and shoots Dr Light in the head, plants his body with Jason’s tracker for the OG Titans to find. This was my favorite Deathstroke moment of the season so far.

2. Dick hands himself over to Deathstroke but Deathstroke has Jason outside the building on a window washing platform laced with C4. Kory walks in and attacks Deathstroke so a fight between Deathstroke and Kory and Dick breaks out. The two Titans are getting the best of Deathstroke until Kory tells Dick to go for Jason. She and Deathstroke continue the fight until Deathstroke throws some flashbangs at her which knock her out for a few seconds which gives Deathstroke some time to nearly stab her until Dick stops him with a stick. Deathstroke throws a stun grenade and then blows the platform Jason was on.

3. After Dick looks out the window he finds Jason hanging onto the side of the building, he reaches for Jasons hand and grabs it but Jason loses the grip and falls and thats when the episode ends. Does Jason survive or does Kory or Superboy save him? Does Gar transform into a big bird to save Jason since he felt bad all episode?

The Verdict

Another absolute sublime episode. Deathstroke was once again a big part why this episode was another great episode. Esai Morales plays the part of Slade Wilson incredibly well. This episode also gave us another look at Hank, the softer side of him. We also got a 1v1 fight that no one knew they needed to see in Kory vs Deathstroke.
