Why Invasion! Was The Best Crossover In The Arrowverse

It goes without saying that The CW has always done extremely well when it comes to their crossovers, albeit having a less than positive reception with Crisis on Infinite Earths when it released last year. I still enjoyed it to be honest.

There has been 6 crossover episodes when it comes down to the Arrowverse, here’s the list;

  1. Flash vs. Arrow
  2. Heroes Join Forces
  3. Invasion!
  4. Crisis on Earth-X
  5. Elseworlds
  6. Crisis on Infinite Earths

Each one of the crossovers had its pros and cons, but one I’d like to give praise for being just an amazing crossover through is, well, you already know, it’s Invasion!

Consistently across all 3 episodes, the event was solid. I’m not going to include the Supergirl episode in this article because that didn’t even count.

The episode begins after the events of Flashpoint, but also the Dominators invading earth hence the title. It’s this event that you see how close Oliver and Barry have become.

Oliver stands up to the Legends and his own team to defend Barry after he’s beating himself up because of his actions with Flashpoint. Whilst it’s a subtle thing to like, it just hit differently.

Next up is the second episode where the non-metas have been abducted and placed into a false reality where they’re all, well, happy. Moira and Robert are alive, as is Laurel. Oliver isn’t the Green Arrow is ready to wed Laurel, and his life has turned around.

This episode was extremely emotional in many ways, especially for Thea on the back of it too.

Then the third episode is the all-out assault that we’ve all been waiting for. It’s like every episode within the event had a purpose, and it didn’t feel like Arrow’s episode was directed to Arrow’s members – even if it was in a way.

My wife also mentioned when we watched it that the characters feel more cheery, and not all just doom and gloom, even if they are fighting a serious alien invasion that is threatening the human race.

The predictability as well, going back to my point of Oliver defending Barry – you almost expect Oliver to also take a swing at Barry when you first ever watch it so it was a pleasant surprise all around.

Overall, the series made an impact and it brought 4 shows together that all had a purpose.

For me personally, Invasion! was absolutely the best crossover. The others are all great, but Invasion! for me just edges it when it comes to the top crown.
