Season 1 Episode 4 – “Jubilee must relive the X-Men’s greatest adventures when she’s transported into a 16-bit video game.”

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. Jubilee and Sunspot get teleported into a video game console called “Motendo”. Where they immediately get attacked by a Sentinal. The action in the episode picks up immediately and I absolutely love it.

2. As a gamer myself, I fully appreciate this villain, Mojo, putting Jubilee and Sunspot into a video game where what I’ll assume to be video game footage of different levels within an old X-Men game. It’s done really well in my opinion.

3. Jubilee meets a version of her that tested these levels in the game, she’s a more older, stronger version of Jubilee. The two Jubilee’s team up to defeat Mojo in the final boss level of the video game. It’s a fun little bit of the episode.

4. Forge tries to help Storm regain her powers but when she tries, she breaks down in tears because she can’t regain them. Forge explains to Storm that he helped build devices to control dangerous mutants. I didn’t expect this twist but we’ll see how this continues next episode.

What I Disliked

My only dislike is that this was part one of a couple of episodes and this episode delivered the the episode in two stories. They had Jubilee’s story and then Storms. They should have skipped Jubilee’s story and had a story revolving Storm for the entire episode.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would be Jubilee having to complete a “boss battle” within the game she’s trapped in. She has to wait for the video game version of Magneto to cycle through his attacks so Jubilee can stop and defeat him.

Standout Character

The standout character for me is Jubilee. She managed to escape the video game and defeat the video game version of Magneto because she’s a gamer.

Verdict

Honestly, this episode was a mess in my opinion. I feel like they could have skipped Jubilee’s portion of the episode because for now, that doesn’t work with the “Life/Death” part of the episode where as the next episode will. Overall, an ok episode.
