What I Liked

1. Sam begins to unravel. He suffers flashbacks with some of the awful things he has done, and then completely trips out. I noticed a scene with Kimiko in there because, as of where I’m at in the episode, I’m still unsure if this is before or after the end of the latest Boys season. It’s gonna be good to see Sam fall apart even more.

2. Cipher really is quite sadistic in the way he approaches things. Cate is furious after being left for dead and wants to tell Vaught what happened. Cipher then explains how that conversation would go down with Homelander, then proceeds to tell her that without her power, she’s effectively useless. He brings the bad news effortlessly, and I can’t wait to see what his agenda actually is.

3. Sam eventually loses control after Cate explains she can’t use her powers anymore. Sam begins by smashing up his room before Jordan attempts to intervene. They have a short fight before Jordan switches to the female version and explains they want to help. Sam does calm down, but it’s terrifying how quickly Sam can switch like that.

4. It turns out Cipher was there the day Marie was born. Marie goes to visit her Aunt, who provides her with some photos from that day. One of those photos is of Cipher holding Marie. That was quite the shock.

5. Marie goes in on her Aunt for mentioning that Marie massacred her parents. Marie explains that it was her parents’ fault for injecting her with a drug. I mean, I kinda agree. We also know that Annabeth is or was living there, which is what causes Marie to unload. I’m glad Marie said what she said during that altercation.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

Jordan becomes the #1 ranking within the school. She’s also called onto the stage by Cipher to give a speech. That she does, she’s given a script to read off, but eventually goes off on her own. She defends Starlighters, tells the crowd Andre is dead, and then drops a bomb. She openly tells everybody that it was she who attacked Cate. Cipher walks off the stage, and then the episode ends. Talk about a godsmacking moment to end off the opening 3 episodes.

Standout Character

I was torn between Sam and Jordan, if I’m being completely honest. However, Jordan’s speech at the end threw me off, and I wasn’t expecting it. Therefore, mainly because of that scene, she’s the standout in the episode. I can’t wait to see the backlash of her speech in the next episode.

Verdict

A great ending to the opening 3 episodes for the second season. This episode didn’t have much action, but it made up for it with a shock ending, unravelling characters, and more questions being raised. I genuinely cannot wait to see how this all unfolds in the fourth episode.
