According to unconfirmed reports, Finn Jones will reportedly return as Danny Rand within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the reports from X User “@Crptic4KQual” he will return in the third season of the series, with him being teased in the upcoming second season.
Now, after the reports that came out about how Finn Jones was behind the scenes on the Netflix series, I’m not sure this is what I would like. I just know that I would like to see all the Marvel Netflix heroes return to the MCU. So far, we’ve had Daredevil, The Punisher, and, in season 2, Jessica Jones.
This could be a redemption arc for the character. The original Iron Fist never quite hit the dragon’s roar that people expected. Since then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is tighter, the writing has matured, and many characters get a second chance. Take Daredevil, for example, his return appearances have been leaner, sharper, and more comic-accurate.
The first and second seasons of Born Again are clearly building the grounded New York corner of the MCU. Bringing in Iron Fist would fit this perfectly and would create an opening for a Luke Cage return and ultimately, give the Defenders a proper appearance.
Let’s be honest, though, the Iron Fist series wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. The original series’ reception wasn’t just mild disappointment; it was loud criticism. If audiences see this return, they will be put off. This would need Marvel to be like this is different, this is improved, and this is intentional. Otherwise, this return will reopen old wounds.
If he does return in the third season. This means more backstory to re-establish, more character repair work, more fight choreography focus, and more mythology to explain. Unless he’s written as a supporting role. This return could put Matt Murdock’s story at risk if Danny Rand’s redemption starts competing for emotional weight.
