What I Liked

1. Despite everything Cate has done, I still felt massively sorry for her. Cipher has her sent into a prison where she looks so helpless. Her powers barely function. To top it off even more, seeing them take off her prosthetic arm and wig was heartbreaking.

2. Cipher tells Polarity, Andre’s dad, that he was the direct result of how Andre died in prison. Continuing his mind games, Polarity barely breaks a sweat before slinging a knife towards his neck. Of course, Cipher, being 10 steps ahead, knows Polarity won’t act on it. Cipher is honestly terrifying.

3. Sam is the next most unhinged character after Cipher and Homelander. The moment he heads back to his parents, I instantly knew this was going to go sideways. It does. Not long after. Sam becomes paranoid after seeing his Mom on the phone, which results in his dad accidentally being hit in Sam’s rage. I felt the entire intensity in that scene.

4. Marie, Jordan, and Emma attempt to save Cate from the prison. It doesn’t go well. Again, like point 3, it’s almost instant. All 3 end up back in cells with the power-dampening collars around their necks. Emma and Cate’s conversation as they’re both locked up was hilarious.

5. In all fairness, we do get a decent feel-good moment between Sam and his Mom in a park. Sam’s Dad is okay after being hit, and his Mom apologizes for her terrible DNA. She does explain to Sam that it wasn’t the V that made him the way he is; it’s just poor luck of the draw. Sam did calm down, although you can still feel the tension; it was a nice moment nonetheless.

6. Marie finally loses it. Cipher also has her sister locked up, Annabeth. Cipher wants Marie to get to her full potential, and this time she agrees. However, it’s only because she wants to kill Cipher. What a moment that was.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

The prison break begins, although it’s sketchy because it felt easy. Cipher’s often so far ahead it feels odd how easy it is. It starts with Cate, who manages to get the rest of them out. The brutality doesn’t stop, though, as the group heads to get Annabeth, only to find her dead in her cell in a pool of blood. Marie manages to put the blood back and save her. I’m devastated the episode ended there; that was fantastic.

Standout Character

It’s the toughest one yet to decide. A few characters stood out. Cipher, Marie, Sam, and even Cate. I think his week I’m going to give it to Cipher. He really upped his game. He’s terrifyingly manipulative and this episode showed more than anything so far this season. I’m intrigued to see where this goes. The theory of the man in the bathtub at the beginning is actually Cipher just controlling this guy, and he’s actually Godolkin, which is interesting.

Verdict

A fantastic episode that really thrust the season forward, which was needed. We now have so many questions answered. It’s getting interesting, and I already cannot wait for next week to see where this goes. Zero complaints from me.
