Season 1 Episode 1 – “In the criminal underworld of Janix, Maul enacts a plan to consolidate his power.”

What I Liked
1. The Shadow Collective pulls off a credit heist, which sees the criminal faction get a massive payday. These opening scenes shows of well they work as a group and also how well of a leader Maul is to his group.
2. Maul makes his entrance into the episode to the same song he did way back when he debuted in The Phantom Menace movie. They brought back Duel of the Fates for his return in his own series. This right here was such a great throwback. 10/10 for sure.
3. The police who are doing the investigation into the credit robbery know that the robbery was “too clean” to be any other rival gangster, but they do end up getting footage of someone with a “laser sword”, someone who the ISB has classified, and needs to report straight away.
4. While Maul takes the gangster prisoner, Maul senses Devon Izara in the prison cell. He senses that she’s a Jedi, and she knows who Maul is. I am so curious to see how the issues between the two come to the forefront of the series.
What I Disliked
Nothing to report.
Favorite Moment
My favorite moment would be when Maul launches an attack on the police station. His men begin to take down every police droid there is. Maul’s men take most of the police force down, while Maul is just slaughtering the droids.
Standout Character
I’m going to have to give this to Maul. Honestly, it’s just so good to have him back on our screens. In this episode, he was menacing and frightening.
Verdict
A fantastic first episode for Shadow Lord. This felt like Star Wars. The underworld of Star Wars is such a wide concept that this story will be a standout simply because Maul is in it. The story in this first episode was decent, and it dived straight into the action.
