Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord “Chapter 2: Sinister Schemes” Review

Season 1 Episode 2 – “Maul seeks to enlighten his new prisoners while Lawson pursues him.”

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. I like how the episode immediately picked up with Maul escaping from the prison while not only taking the prisoner he wanted and needed, but also Devon Izara as well. This is simply because Maul has plans for her, and she is to be his apprentice. This is an early prediction from me, but I feel like it’s going that way.

2. We get a tease of Jedi Master Eeko-Dio Daki vs Maul. They were ready to fight, but I don’t think either of them wanted to show their full force abilities without triggering any repercussions. I think we will get a duel between the two, just not yet.

3. I do really like how Lawson isn’t bringing in the Empire just yet. He knows how annoying they would be in the investigation, and they would be even worse now that there are force-sensitive people involved. Lawson wants to learn about the Shadow Collective before bringing them in.

4. I do like how Maul hasn’t just straight-up killed the Jedi that he has seen. He could have easily killed the Jedi Master, but he decided to cause a distraction, and he could have easily killed the Padawan, but he kept her alive and wants to show her how the galaxy truly is.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would be when we see Maul enter the Pikes’ ship and have his “hallway” moment. Similar to Vader, we see Maul just absolutely slash and destroy the Pikes. This scene was really good and brutal.

Standout Character

The standout for me this week would simply be Maul again. His tactics and mind are simply brilliant, and he is just brutal when it comes to killing.

Verdict

A slow pace for episode 2. While the story was still decent, the action was on a similar level as the previous episode. Honestly, these first two episodes have been a decent watch. I can not wait to see where the season goes and if Devon Izara begins to side with Maul.
