Top 5 Superheroes That Deserve A Video Game

There are a lot of superheroes out there, some with huge potential when it comes to the video gaming world. Now, on this list, you will see some that have been announced already, but with little news so far, and with games being canceled or delayed, I’ve decided to still put them on this list.

1. Superman

Perhaps the one that’s on everyone’s mind. How Superman hasn’t had a video game, especially in the last 15 years or so, is ridiculous. Regardless of whether you’re more of a Marvel fan or a DC fan, we can all agree that Superman is a household name. Even those with zero interest in superheroes know who Superman is.

There were initially plans for a Superman game, but in 2008, the studios went under due to the recession at the time. It’s a shame nobody else has pushed for this; it could work with the right direction, but instead, we get Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad game, which was utterly awful. I’d love to see the Man of Steel get a game at some point, though it’s probably unlikely now.

2. Iron Man

An Iron Man game is coming, I think. I say “I think” because this game was announced around October 2022, and there’s been next to no news nearly 3 years later. EA published a post that explained Motive Studio and Marvel Entertainment would collaborate on an Iron Man title. Very little news has been published since that point.

Iron Man has had video games before, but they weren’t masterpieces or anything like that. The chance for an updated game with new engines, graphic potentials, and new ways to push the boundaries, Iron Man is one of those characters that deserves his own game. I mean, if done right, it could easily be one of the best superhero games to exist. I’d love to start in the bulky suit like in Iron Man 1 and be able to upgrade as the game progresses. I really hope this game is being done with love.

3. Blade

It feels as though the Blade game that is possibly on its way to us is going through hell for whatever reason at the moment. There were heavy rumors that Arkane Lyon was shut down by Microsoft and these are the developers working on the title. Regardless of whether this has been canceled or delayed, Blade still deserves a standalone title.

He’s the main reason why Marvel is where it is today. His movies saved Marvel back in the late 1990s. It’s not just that, either. Blade is a fantastic character. His movies were excellent, and I’ve loved him when he showed up in other projects, including Midnight Suns. It’s a shame how criminally underused Blade is. His new movie is suffering, and the game’s seemingly on the edge; it really is disappointing.

4. Captain America

We are technically getting a Captain America game soon, but it’s not a standalone. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is scheduled for 2026 at this point, and we’ve had a trailer for it and everything. It looks great, and the trailer looked very good as well. I put this on the list for 2 reasons. Number 1 is that this isn’t a standalone, even though it’s probably the closest we’ll get. Number 2 is because the game isn’t out yet, which makes sense.

Cap is another character that had games on the 360/PS3 days, but it was back in a time when video games were based purely on the movie itself. This was similar to Iron Man as well. In recent years, this will be Captain America’s third outing in a video game. He’s been heavily featured in Marvel’s Avengers and Midnight Suns. None of these are his own game, which I’d honestly love to see. I hope 1943 lives up to the hype.

5. Batman Beyond

An out-of-the-box thought here. Batman Beyond hasn’t had the justice he deserves. He’s had an animated TV series, and that’s been about it. DC has been in developmental hell for a long time on almost every front until James Gunn took over, so it means restarting again. Robert Pattinson has only had 1 outing as Batman, so Beyond, coming on the live-action front, is likely years away (if it ever happens).

This is where Rocksteady could’ve focused their attention as well. They did so well with their Batman games, probably up there as some of the best superhero games of all time. Giving them the creative freedom to create a Batman Beyond game of a similar vibe could’ve worked really well. Beyond reminds me of Miles Morales a lot, but it feels like Miles has grown rapidly despite being created later but yet Beyond hasn’t had a lot going for him. Maybe, just maybe, one day we could get this project.
