5 Things We Would Like To See In Star Wars: Battlefront 3

Since 2004, we’ve had numerous games from the popular Star Wars series, including a reboot of the franchise by EA once they gained the license back then.

The original games are always held in high esteem, especially compared to the two games from EA. Both games had their pros and cons, but more cons I’m not going to lie.

Battlefront 2 had many issues, but by the end of the support cycle, it turned out to be a pretty decent game. So, today I’m going to give you 5 things I’d love to see in the potential sequel.

1. A proper skirmish mode

This has been a huge ask from people since the initial reboot. It was in the originals, but a full-blown edition hasn’t been featured in either of the games so far, considering it’s the skirmish mode that has the most potential out of the entire franchise.

They had the co-op mode which came into Battlefront 2 pretty late on in its cycle, but they could massively expand on it. Sometimes, I’ve been to work all day – I literally cannot be bothered with sweats that camp in a corner when I’ve come to the game for the fun aspects.

Adding skirmish with your friends where YOU set up how to play the game. The type, the map, the number of bots, flying or ground, maybe both? Heroes and villains on the field and just an all-out assault on bots or friends would be an amazing way to play the game. I was disappointed when it wasn’t included, so hopefully, in the next game, it is.

2. Ground and flight modes (integrated into a single game)

To be fair, we have had versions of these within the game itself but I will be honest, they’re not incredibly well done. There needs to be more to it than that.

What I’d love to see would be two teams as normal, but having the ability to go in the air or on the ground with free will. It will add a communications aspect as to who should jump in an X-Wing or Tie-Fighter and take the fight in the air outside the Death Star or a specific planet whilst a team remains on the ground to complete a specific objective.

At least this way it shows which teams are in it for the win, or just for the kills. It reminds me of the War mode in Call of Duty: WW2 where yes you can get many kills – but if you don’t communicate and push the objective, you ultimately lose.

3. Create a hero or villain

The one thing the game has always done well is the choice of heroes and villains, albeit if I thought the way they closed off a lot of the characters to specific factions in Battlefront 2 was awfully sad to see. Especially considering you could only play as say, Darth Vader in specific matchups.

By creating a hero or villain, you decide what you want to be and what you want to have. If you want to be a Jedi, you can build a lightsaber and choose from a list of powers, same with a sith. If you want to be a shooter, you can design your gun alongside the gadgets you’d love to take into battle.

Obviously, the more you use them the more XP they get, and the more abilities become on offer including standard base stats such as damage, health, etc. It would just be amazing to see the different combos of heroes or villains out on the battlefield.

4. A more in-depth story

The story regarding Iden Versio in Battlefront 2 was okay. I get why they did it to an extent because it revolved around the shooting aspects, but the game doesn’t always need to. I do believe the story should be a bit more in-depth than the one we got.

I obviously don’t expect to see a full-blown story mode when the game’s main focal point isn’t about the story, but they could include choices. Just like some of the later Call of Duty games have implemented to make the story a bit more immersive.

I honestly like the idea of beginning as a Stormtrooper within the empire, and you get to decide. You can either go Rogue and side with the Rebels in battle, and build your rank there, or you can remain loyal to the Empire and build your reputation there. The story could also interlink with the online/skirmish aspects of the game as well.

5. A much better progression system

Let’s be honest here, the progression system in both EA’s Battlefronts has been literally trash. Even after the initial outcry from fans when Battlefront 2 launched, it never really got to an enjoyable state for me. It still felt messy, when a simple level up bar with XP earned in games would suffice.

Nobody expects a weird progression system, where it’s complicated, dumb, and no feeling of progressing either. When I say a “much better progression system”, what I mean is, just leave it alone. Don’t try and overcomplicate an already tried and tested system that most people prefer.

I go back to Call of Duty again, but I go earlier than their weird Master Prestige aspects – but it was just normal. You knew what rank you’d unlock guns, equipment, perks, etc and you’d just do matches to earn the XP to head towards those unlocks. This game needs to do the same, and keep it simple.
