The Boys Season 5 Now Can’t Afford to Ignore Gen V

Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg officially confirmed on April 24th, 2026, that Gen V will not be renewed for a third season. They have told us that we will see them again. In what capacity, though, is unclear at this stage. You can read the initial press release from Deadline by clicking here.

We know now the focus is locked in on Vought Rising, planned for a 2027 release. However, this series is a PREQUEL to The Boys, set in the ’50s and not set in the current timeline that we’re familiar with. That means Vought Rising, given its timeline, won’t be able to wrap up any of the current storylines.

Gen V was a spin-off of The Boys, focusing on Godolkin University and the students there. It gives us an insight as to how a college for Supes only would work. The series did a great job in connecting the two shows together. Season 4 of The Boys began to link into this as well, as has season 5 so far, with multiple mentions of Dr. Thomas R. Godolkin.

This leaves the 5th and final season of The Boys as the only place left to properly wrap up Gen V. We already knew that some of the main characters, including Marie, Emma, and Jordan, would likely be in The Boys. We saw the cliffhanger at the end of the second season of Gen V when A-Train and Starlight showed up after they managed to defeat Godolkin. Based on how the season ended, Starlight and A-Train took them into hiding to protect them.

As of 4 episodes in, we’ve yet to see Marie and the group, and time is starting to run out.

They have built Marie up to be an Omega-level Supe, implying that she could be the answer to Homelander in the end. If that’s the direction they take, it completely changes the endgame. This would differ from the comics, where Black Noir, a Homelander clone, was the one to end it all, but the show has proven it’s willing to rewrite that ending. It’s already rewritten a number of sections from the comics. Here is an article from ScreenRant showing all of the differences between the show and the comics, if you’re interested.

Nevertheless, if it’s Marie, they need to ensure the Gen V characters are done well, the same as The Boys characters. This season will likely be the last we see of them unless they implement some sort of time travel in Vought Rising, but I think that’s unlikely.

If they fail to stick the landing here, it’s going to hurt Gen V moving forward. It’s a show that still holds weight and stands strong on its own, but if The Boys chooses to ignore this or fails to do these characters justice, then it risks making Gen V feel like a complete waste of time. It risks making everything that came before feel disconnected. Shared universe storytelling comes with responsibility, and with Season 5 being the final chapter, they have to get this right.
