Spider-Noir was released on Amazon Prime a few weeks ago, and it was nothing short of a great show, especially for a Spider-related character that has been in live-action. Due to work, I am onto the final episode, and I’ve loved this series from the acting to the characters, and of course, Nicolas Cage.
1. It proved Spider stories don’t need Peter Parker
For decades, most Spider-Man projects have revolved around Peter Parker’s coming-of-age journey. Spider-Noir shifted the spotlight to an older, broken Ben Reilly who had already lived through his greatest triumphs and failures. It showed that Spider stories can thrive beyond the traditional high-school or young-adult formula.
2. It took Spider-Man into completely new genres
Rather than another superhero blockbuster. SpiderNoir embraced detective fiction, crime drama, and classic film noir. The series blended Marvel storytelling with the atmosphere of 1930s crime thrillers, proving Spider characters can succeed in genres far removed from traditional superhero fare.

3. It delivered the most mature Spider lead yet
Ben Reilly’s version of The Spider is older, cynical, and haunted by tragedy. Unlike the optimistic Peter Parker audiences are used to, this character operates in moral grey areas and carries years of emotional baggage. That maturity opened the door for future Spider projects aimed at older audiences.
4. It expanded what a Spider-Man show could look like
The series launches with both black-and-white and colour versions, creating a unique viewing experience rarely seen in modern superhero television. Nicolas Cage himself even described the dual-format presentation as “a little revolutionary”, making the show feel unlike anything else in Marvel’s television catalogue.
5. It showed the Spider-Verse has endless potential
By focusing on a radically different Spider character in a 1930s New York setting, Spider-Noir demonstrated that audiences are willing to follow Spider-heroes far beyond the familiar Peter Parker formula. That Success strengthens the case for more live-action adaptations of alternate Spider characters and universes in the future.
