Why I Have High Hopes For Star Wars Zero Company

August 27th cannot come soon enough.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a turn-based tactics-style video game. These are the types of games I can lose hours of my life to.

There are a few reasons as to why I’m excited for this. The first is Midnight Suns. I initially wrote that game off, but it turned out to be one of the best games I’ve ever played. I will not make that mistake again, especially when it’s a franchise that I love.

This leads me into my next point. Star Wars. This is a franchise I’ve said for years could do with a similar game to X-Com. Star Wars is a vastly rich franchise with layers and layers of characters and stories.

When I saw the gameplay trailer, I was blown away. I saw that you could play as Mandalorians, Jedi, troopers, and more. It gives off a vibe that means the game is really going to make you think. Every move appears to matter, and that’s exactly what I want from a tactics game.

Here is the gameplay trailer if you haven’t seen it:

Bit Reactor is making the game in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment. If you’ve played the Jedi games with Cal Kestis, then you’ll be familiar with Respawn’s work. The fact that they’ve worked on this provides further hope that the game is going to be good.

The Jedi games have some of the best Star Wars storytelling in recent years. Interestingly, tactics games also tend to have fantastic stories despite being known primarily for their gameplay.

Halo Wars, Midnight Suns, and X-Com were all incredible. They’re stories that I even still remember to this day. If Zero Company can get even remotely close to the stories these games had, then we’re definitely in for a treat.

I pre-ordered the game as soon as it dropped on the PlayStation Store, and it’s one of my most anticipated games of the year alongside Wolverine and Grand Theft Auto 6. If it delivers on what we’ve seen so far, Star Wars fans could be in for something special.
