It doesn’t matter if you’re a hardcore gamer, a casual gamer, or not a gamer at all; you’ve heard of Call of Duty. It’s arguably the biggest gaming franchise on the planet.
We’ve had games take us through World War II, the Cold War, present-day military conflicts, near-future warfare, and even futuristic battles beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Some games continue existing storylines, while others tell completely standalone stories. One thing Call of Duty has consistently delivered, though, is memorable campaigns (well… except Black Ops 7, which went a little too far for me).
This is genuinely why I’m surprised Call of Duty hasn’t had a movie yet.
We still have just under two years to wait, but we do know the movie will be set within the Modern Warfare universe. You can see the X post below:
That’s perhaps the only information we have right now: a release date of June 30, 2028, and confirmation that the film will be set within the Modern Warfare universe.
It hasn’t gone as far as confirming whether this will be a direct game-to-big-screen adaptation featuring characters we know and love, such as Soap and Price. We know the war is far more vast than the characters we’re already familiar with, so there are plenty of directions they could take the story.
Personally, if they do decide to tell a fresh, original story, I hope they still include the odd Easter egg or cameo from the characters we’ve all grown to know and love over the years.
Either way, I’m just glad it’s finally happening. For a franchise that’s spent more than two decades delivering blockbuster moments, it always felt like a movie was inevitable. I’m genuinely surprised it took this long.
