What I Liked
1. Kirsten and Daredevil meet, but she’s still unaware that Matt is Daredevil. He uses his senses to locate the prison where Jack was held, using Kirsten’s explanations of her own senses when she was blindfolded walking through the prison. I found it very clever how Daredevil can manipulate others’ senses to locate the prison.
2. Daredevil heads to the prison to find all of the people held in cages. With little hesitation, he unlocks all of the cages, which include Jack’s. The AVTF gets wind of it, but Daredevil and Jack work together to take them out. It’s a fantastic scene. It’s a shame it took well over 30 minutes to get an enjoyable scene. It’s about as brutal as it gets, incredible.
3. As the prisoners are brought out by Daredevil, the AVTF turn up and begin unloading bullets like it’s nobody’s business. Angela and Karen turn up in a truck to allow them to escape. I did actually like this scene, more so seeing Angela don the necklace, bringing the White Tiger mantle back.
What I Disliked
1. The episode hasn’t done a very good job of explaining things. When Fisk is approached by a random woman we’ve never seen before, reading a document that I believe was sent by Karen. I don’t know if I’m just tired or genuinely confused by what’s going on, but I feel like it’s just jumped to someone completely different since the last episode.
2. I know we’ve been prepped for the vigilante trials, and they will begin with The Swordsman. I find this trial to be boring, ridiculous, and I just don’t care for it whatsoever. I feel like Jack’s barely had much of an impact since being introduced, even more so in this season so far. Like, where the hell is Kate?! That’s her stepfather. It feels like a complete waste. The shows made a point about the public interest involved in the trial. Kate, who has access to an Avenger in Clint, isn’t there? Okay…
3. Heather and Buck converse about the people within the room. Fisk being the king, Vanessa being the queen, Daniel being the jester, etc. I feel like it’s more wasted screen time in an episode that’s been so unbelievably boring so far.
Favorite Moment
Fisk blows up the Northern Star ship. The effects of the explosion leave a lot to be desired. However, the reason why I like this is because of Fisk. He followed the instructions given to him earlier and showed zero guilt about giving the order. We have no idea how many people were probably killed on that ship.
Standout Character
I don’t think any character properly stood out in this episode. If I were to choose, then it would be Daredevil himself for purely the action sequence at the end. I can’t say much more on this action because of how lacklustre the episode was.
Verdict
I’m not sure if this week was it. The pacing felt wildly off, explaining next to nothing with moments that made little sense. It took over 30 minutes before the episode truly got going. After what was a solid second episode, I have to admit, this episode may have been the most disappointing Daredevil episode, Netflix included. It’s a shame because I know they can do better than this.
