I’ve been a fan of Edi Gathegi since I first saw him in Twilight, yes, Twilight. He’s such a unique actor who has some incredible range and talent, and he just kills every role he has, whether that’s movies or TV shows.
You can imagine my surprise when I saw Edi cast in the X-Men First Class movie as Darwin. A mutant who can not be killed. His powers consisted of being able to adapt to any situation or environment he is placed in, allowing him to survive possibly anything, with his exact nature and limits of his powers not being revealed.
Now you can imagine my surprise again when this character, who can survive anything, was actually killed off within the movie, with the promise of his character being brought back for a sequel movie. Crazy right? Wrong. He remained dead and was not brought back in any way, shape, or form.

It was a welcome surprise when Edi was cast in the Superman movie as Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific. I won’t lie, my knowledge of Mr. Terrific came from the old Justice League Unlimited animated show and then the unfortunate version of the character in The CW’s Arrow show.
I did not know what to expect with this character going into the movie. The trailers never really showcased him, but had him alongside Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner, arguable characters that wouldn’t be the first choice for any other director, but for James Gunn, these are characters that he surprises people with, and my god did he do just that.
There was no need for just how cool, snarky, confident, and generally badass Mr. Terrific was within this movie. From the moment he debuted in the movie, it was just nonstop laughing, being amazed and shocked at just how cool this character was done.
Spoiler Warning
Let’s talk about that scene. Seeing Mr. Terrific absolutely wreck an army of soldiers that were working for Lex, just how smooth he moved, how smooth he was able to glide around, and using his Tspheres was absolutely brilliant, and even his suit was fantastic, the detail was superb.
I’m generally glad that Edi has had his comic book character redemption. He’s up there with the likes of Chris Evans and Michael B. Jordan.
