We finally have a trailer for a Green Lantern show. I feel like this has been on the horizon for years, even back when The CW was still pushing out DC shows. We now have a target release with August this year. Unfortunately, we don’t have an official date at this point, but August is the month, which is great.
The show will be centred around an older Hal Jordan training John Stewart in the Green Lantern way. When you consider it from that angle, it appears promising. However, that trailer was anything but promising.
I’m not here to be critical, but I couldn’t help but feel like I wasn’t watching a trailer about Lanterns at all. Green, Yellow, villains, anything. The trailer gave us a view of the ring, lantern, a suit hanging in a closet, and Hal flying. That’s it. That’s all we got.
We didn’t get any suits on the characters, which tells me it’s either going to be a finale thing or a season 2 if it happens. It feels predictable. I’m still extremely mad we didn’t get a single construct in the series either.
I understand they probably want to save some of the best bits, but a trailer is supposed to entice people to watch. I feel like it hasn’t done that for me. If anything, I felt disappointed. It’s a show that’s centred around Lanterns. I want to see the suits, the constructs, the powers, the fighting, especially when we get Hal and John in live-action!
I do like the dynamic angle between the two characters. We know the show is a buddy cop show, and the trailer definitely showed that part well. The casting choices are perfect as well, so hopefully, a second trailer can further enhance what this show intends to be.
I hope I’m wrong about my hesitancy with this. I really hope I can come back to this article in August and laugh at March 4th me at how wrong I am. Since James Gunn has taken over DC, I’ve been more hopeful than ever that we can finally get DC to where it needs to be, and I do hope Lanterns can continue this trajectory. However, the next teaser or trailer needs to give us a little more.
