What I Liked
1. Cate continues to show her brutality even when she’s in a coma. Sam walks in to see her, she grabs the hand of a nurse and continues to control her into stabbing another nurse in the eye. This scene does showcase how powerful she truly is.
2. Emma pretending to be a huge fan of The Rememberer is absolutely hilarious, even more so when they go through the archives and she’s high. Lizze Broadway does such a brilliant job in this scene.
3. More of The Boys’ characters are now involved in the broader story. Deep shows up within the college. I love how much the two shows are tying themselves together. It’s going to be interesting to see how this all ends.
4. The guy who bought Marie her stuff in the first episode at the shop was blamed for attacking Cate. Dogknott essentially kills him for it and takes all of the credit. This is incredibly intriguing as Marie and Jordan begin to panic. We also learn that Odessa is Marie herself. What that entails at this stage, I’m not sure, but I am curious to see what this is.
What I Disliked
This episode felt a lot slower in comparison to what we’ve seen so far. I know these series aren’t meant to be logical, but if I put my logical hat on for a second, it makes no sense as to why Marie, Emma, or Jordan would return to the school. Jordan was fully right in this episode, and I’d dip as well. They were responsible for the school’s golden pupil, Cate, being attacked, and they also went through what they went through in prison, so it feels unrealistic. At times, it feels like a bit of a cop out. I may be in the minority with this opinion, and whilst it’s a small dislike, it’s still something I can’t help but think about.
Favorite Moment
Cipher begins a seminar that involves his group of students to push a button. The lesson is for them actually to understand their powers more. However, for them to push the button, they have to get through Vikor, a Viking supe with a hammer. This entire sequence is brutal. Jordan gets the spotlight in parts and fares pretty well against him. Marie manages to take him down very nearly before he focuses his attention on her, and Jordan presses the button to win the lesson. What an action sequence that was.
Standout Character
I think Jordan stood out the most for me in this episode. Purely down to the logical thinking in wanting to run because I’d run as well. I also loved her action scenes during the episode against Vikor. I thought the sequences where she was shapeshifting to get each ability were brilliantly done.
Verdict
Not bad for the second episode, and the tone appears to be set moving forward. There were a lot of questions raised from the first episode and even more raised during the second, which is a good thing as it adds intrigue moving forward. I did enjoy this episode, although I did think the opening was a tad better; it was still a good episode nonetheless.
