What I Liked
We see a bit of Steph’s back story. In all honesty, I never thought I’d care for it. It was still interesting to see. It shows how fast she becomes hardened, slitting people’s throats to survive. Initially, I didn’t care, but after one small scene, I am intrigued to see how she ended up where she is today.
Lucy’s head seemingly begins to turn. She keeps seeing the good in what Hank has done. I don’t blame her for that. His experiment looks perfect so far. In a world like this, with people so feral, Hank’s goals, although immoral, are effective.
Seeing Maximus in the power armor walk through Freeside alongside Thaddeus and Cooper was heroic. That’s what it feels like in Fallout 4 when you first get the power armour to fight the Deathclaw. It’s amazing to see how much the NCR is still respected as well.
Despite how close Hank was to swaying Lucy, she eventually turns against him when she again sees the old NCR soldier. The moment was intense, to say the least. Lucy’s moral intentions were always going to see through Hank’s experiment.
Chet stands up for himself against Steph. He does so at the wedding as well. He tells everyone about the glasses he found, he outs Steph’s nationality, even saying he doesn’t at the altar. Surprisingly, it’s the nationality, the fact that she’s Canadian, that causes people to turn against her. I’m so glad this has happened.
Maximus vs a Deathclaw is the ultimate action sequence I wanted to see. Cooper panics when he tries to assist. Thankfully for Maximus, he narrowly survives. Cooper heads inside the casino whilst Maximus decides to fight against more of them. His confidence doesn’t last long until a Deathclaw smashes him through the barricade using its tail. What an impressive scene all of this was.
Has Cooper given the President the keys to continue with Vault-Tec’s plan? It appears that way. Diane Welch seems to side with Cooper pre-war, allowing a meeting to be set up with the President so he can hand over the cold fusion. It’s clear how it goes regardless, until we see Lucy enter the door she was initially going to before Hank swayed her, it’s only Diane’s head on a table. She has several wires coming out of everywhere, which indicates she is the mainframe. Then, to top it all off. Mr. House is alive via the computer, similar to how we see him during the video game. This has blown wide open before the finale next week.
What I Disliked
Nothing to report this week.
Favorite Moment
Hearing the proper Fallout theme music as Cooper presents a full set of NCR power armor to Maximus was incredible. What a moment this was. It’s a brief moment, it just felt heroic, and I loved it. We don’t get moments like this very often in this world.
Standout Character
I’m going to give this Maximus this week. Only because for me, he stood out the most when it came to those moments. He’s back in power armour, he went toe to toe with a Deathclaw and stood up to The Ghoul with a gun pointed in his face. He was brilliant this episode. I am looking forward to seeing him reunited with Lucy in the finale.
Verdict
A perfect episode with the perfect pre-finale climax. Everything has begun to come full circle since the opening episode. I had zero complaints throughout. I was thoroughly entertained, and the story was fantastic. There isn’t a lot more to say other than that.
