Season 4 Episode 5 – “Mark embarks on a new and dangerous mission, throwing Debbie into a tailspin and plunging Eve into uncertainty.”

What I Liked
1. Nolan arrives on Earth and speaks with Mark. He explains that the Viltrumites will always be a threat and that Nolan originally came to Earth to see if they could breed. Nolan then makes a decision that I like and goes to see Debbie to apologize.
2. We get to see Techjacket in action again. I already love her suit, which regenerates from damage over time. She takes down a villain that is feeding on electric and she overloads him and basically fries him. Without hesitation, Techjackets’ dad nominates her for the fight against the Viltrumites.
3. I loved the final meal between the family before Mark and Oliver set off for the war. It gave a different feel, a different tone to the episode that made the episode feel like it had real consequences. It felt like a grounded scene that stood out in an action-packed episode.
4. The Viltrumites blow up the ship, which causes a massive war to break out between the two factions. Conquest shows back up, and Oliver takes the fight to Conquest, but Conquest just messes with him. Nolan saves Oliver while Mark fights another Viltrumite.
5. While Mark is strangling and biting off Conquest’s thumb. Conquest makes the ultimate move by punching a hole right through Mark’s stomach, literally ripping out his insides, but it is not enough for Conquest, as Mark keeps a grip on his throat, killing him.
What I Disliked
Nothing to report this week.
Favorite Moment
My favorite moment would be when Oliver arrives on a planet to get some air, Conquest appears behind him, but Mark saves him at the last second. Mark begins to choke Conquest to death while Conquest just punches his body and brutally beats him, but Mark does not let up one bit.
Standout Character
I’m going to give this to Mark, even though this was very close to being Nolan; I have to give it to Mark. Mark saw Oliver nearly get killed by Conquest, knew exactly how brutal Conquest was, and did what needed to be done, and that was ending Conquest.
Verdict
This episode was very much the definition of “calm before the storm”. The episode began with some chill scenes before moving into the emotional scenes and then all-out action. The war in the end was brutal and bloody. This was probably one of the greatest fight scenes in all of Invincible.
