The Punisher: One Last Kill Review

Season 1 Episode 1 – “As Frank Castle searches for meaning beyond revenge, he’s unexpectedly pulled back into the fight.”

Please note, our reviews are based on likes and dislikes. These contain significant spoilers. If you haven’t already watched the episode, we recommend that you click off the article and come back once you have watched the episode. Enjoy!

What I Liked

1. I do like how the opening of the special presentation showcases the mindset of Frank Castle. The self-sabotage by drinking, taking pills, working out until his hands bleed, and vomiting. The near-empty room, no sound, just Castle and his thoughts.

2. Seeing Frank walk through the streets, as the “normal” guy, while everything and everyone around him is just falling to pieces and is generally like a warzone, is crazy. Honestly, it gives a fresh perspective on Castle’s mind.

3. Frank has killed an entire Mafia family; the remaining member of the family, the mother, has put a small bounty on Frank and will share his exact location at the same time as the death of her son. She threatens Frank and tells him she’s going to watch him die.

4. People come for Frank right on time. They set his apartment on fire, with him also on fire. He quickly goes from Frank to The Punisher. He saves the family across the way by killing everyone in the apartment. Saving the family.

5. I do like how this special presentation kept the original feel from the Netflix Punisher as well as mixed in with the Punisher we saw in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again.

What I Disliked

1. They killed a dog. Random thugs killed a lovely dog.

2. When Frank gets thrown off the building onto an air vent, the VFX is very bad. You can tell it was left a little bit unfinished.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would be when The Punisher returns. We see Frank in a full suit. Ready to take down criminals, rioters, and generally bad people. A lawless world needs Frank Castle. The guy who killed the dog is Frank’s last kill of the special presentation.

Standout Character

Frank gets this. Without a shadow of a doubt. Seeing what he went through in this episode, from pain, psychological torment, to realization. Absolutely fantastic acting by Jon Bernthal.

Verdict

This might be the most comic-accurate version of The Punisher done in live-action yet. This special presentation for The Punisher was absolutely fantastic. The story within this project was incredible. The acting by Jon Bernthal was impeccable. The action was some of the best action we’ve gotten from The Punisher since the Netflix days.
