What I Liked
1. We’re introduced to Joe who’s arrested by Agatha for attempting to rob her place. After an extremely boring start, the show begins to pick up curiously. Agatha is interviewing Joe about the dead body but it turns out everything isn’t as it seems. It’s starting to get interesting.
2. Agatha comes back to reality. We’re now seeing the direct result from Wanda in her show. I wasn’t expecting a nude Agatha jogging across the street either but Kathryn Hahn is just fantastic.
3. Agatha vs Aubrey was a decent fight. One of the things I adore about Agatha is her constant sarcasm. It doesn’t matter how serious it gets, there’s a sarcastic comment somewhere.
What I Disliked
I am currently 20 minutes in at the time of writing this article and I’m yet to find anything I like. The Wanda’s body looked hilariously fake to the point it looked like a ragdoll. I also dislike the fact we have zero idea of what’s going on here. We know what happened at the end of WandaVision but as of now, there’s been no explanation. I’m finding the show at this point incredibly boring.
Favorite Moment
Agatha goes to the morgue to see Wanda’s body when Aubrey shows up after going missing during Joe’s interview. Agatha begins to undress but as she does so, each time she uncovers an outfit she wore during WandaVision, even the black and white version. Aubrey did confirm Wanda was also dead along with all versions of the Darkhold, I’m still not sure how I feel about that. This does confirm though that Agatha is still stuck in Wanda’s Westview spell.
Standout Character
Agatha is the standout which is a given. After playing the Midnight Suns video game, I’ve been dying to see Agatha be brought back into the fold and see where they can go with the character. Kathryn Hahn again is a delight and she really is the perfect Agatha Harkness.
Verdict
A very slow opening episode. Towards the end, the story did kick on a bit and I have no doubt the show will only get better from here. However though, from an opening episode standpoint, this was pretty weak. I sat confused for a large portion of it not understanding where we were or what was happening. I’m hopeful that this show is going to be a super fun experience.
