Fallout “The Other Player” Review

Season 2 Episode 6 – I remember good people.

What I Liked

1. It’s terrifying how quickly Cooper can become too far gone if he doesn’t have his vials. As he’s planted through the pole, he’s struggling to reach his satchel where the vials are. He begins to turn very quickly and it sounds horrific.

2. After all of the suspense pre-war, we finally see Cooper call out Barb. He explains that he knows what she plans to do after calling her a monster. It’s about time we’ve seen Cooper man up to Barb. It’s not like she’s planning the end of the world or anything…

3. Hank has a point. When Lucy and Hank come face to face properly, Hank explains that pre-war, countries fight over nothing. The same happens now, fighting over bottle caps. It’s the most logical thing he’s said, it makes sense. That’s until Lucy attempts to arrest him.

4. Fallout shows how unforgiving the world can be. Cooper manages to stay in tact just enough to pull himself up the pole, it’s disturbing. Unfortunately, just as he reaches the top, his loses control again and falls back down.

5. I will never not love hearing Uranium Fever. What an absolute banger!

6. We finally get our first look at a super mutant. The mutant saves Cooper from the pole and sticks a rock of uranium into the hole in his belly. This allows him to heal. The mutant explains to Cooper there’s a war coming. Cooper declines the offer to join them resulting in a swing to the head with a massive staff like weapon by the mutant. Again as I mentioned during point 5, the world is unforgiving.

7. Dogmeat being the clever boy he is, manages to locate Maximus and Thaddeus. In the beginning, Cooper did attempt to use the dog to pass him his vials but Dogmeat took his hat instead. This leads Maximus and Thaddeus to Cooper. It’s great to see the main cast begin to come together.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

Hank’s experiment, although inhuman proves to be effective above all else. As Lucy is marching him out, she begins to realise the benefits of the mind control chip. It’s an impressive scene that does make you think how much kindness is missing from the Fallout world. I think the reason why this is my favourite moment is because it’s the scene that I became so engrossed in. I found it fascinating above all else.

Standout Character

A number of characters stood out this week but for me personally, however due to pure logical reasoning, it has to be Hank. His dialogue this episode does make you question what’s moral, what’s not, what’s right, what’s wrong and more. It’s purely because of that why I’ve opted for him to be my standout this week.

Verdict

A great episode this week that brings some of the main characters together for the first time this season, answers some questions, implodes relationships and so much more. It’s an episode that begins to push the season forward into the eventual climax. I cannot wait for next week.
