James Gunn Casts Lars Eidinger as Brainiac in DCU’s Man of Tomorrow

James Gunn isn’t letting up. With his huge success of 2025’s Superman, we head into 2026 with Supergirl’s debut film in theatres. We’re already looking beyond that with the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow.

Lars Eidinger has been officially cast as Brainiac, one of the most intelligent and terrifying villains in DC Comics. Lars may not be a household name, but the casting very much feels like a James Gunn move. He’s always had a solid track record of casting actors who fit the respective characters well.

I’ve been dying for Brainiac in the DCU for a long time. He’s cold, calculating, and unsettling. With Brainiac being introduced so early, it does make me wonder what is going on behind the scenes. I’d love to see what DC’s roadmap is for future years.

Imagine if Darkseid is after this?!

There is a lot to like about what could come from DC moving forward. I just hope any deal with Paramount or Netflix doesn’t harm any of this. DC deserves to rival Marvel. I hope this is the direction we’re heading.

This is a short announcement with limited details for now, but it’s exciting nonetheless. We will, as always, keep you informed as further news develops.
