Season 1 Episode 7 – Finding themselves on another planet, Hal and John must put aside their fractured past to solve a murder. Along their journey, both men are forced to confront the ghosts of their pasts…and the ways their childhoods shaped who they are today.

Highlights
1. We get a flashback of Hal and his father, and it’s an amazing moment. Hal, as a child, is in trouble after refusing to be subbed off during a baseball game, only for his dad to completely have his back. It’s one of those moments where you begin to truly feel bad for Hal. We see the two of them share a touching moment together, and we also get to see where the idea for the safe ultimately came from.
2. Halogram and John have a hilarious interaction immediately following the ending of the previous episode. Halogram is actually super upset about the fact that he’s been killed, which is understandable, while John makes his intentions clear: he wants to solve Hal’s murder. Their back-and-forth continues to be fantastic, especially considering Halogram is essentially being asked to help investigate his own death.
3. John takes Halogram to see Kerry, and it results in quite an emotional conversation. Kerry is visibly upset seeing him again, while Halogram tries his best to console her despite technically not being Hal himself. It’s a moment I’m glad we got to see, and somehow it makes me root for Hal even more. I do still hope he ends up alive by the end of this show.
4. The creepy feeling continues as the pair eventually end up on a rowing boat. John and Halogram continue to clash, resulting in Halogram briefly leaving John alone. John begins to hallucinate, and the entire scene suddenly becomes incredibly intense. It reaches the point where John attempts to shoot himself before ending up in the water, with Halogram ultimately returning and saving him. It’s easily one of the darkest moments we’ve had from the series so far.
What Didn’t Work
Despite the fact that I only have four highlights and a favourite moment, there wasn’t a single thing I disliked about this episode. Each of the highlights represents a lengthy scene that carried plenty of weight, rather than smaller moments scattered throughout. The episode took its time with each sequence, and honestly, everything worked for me.
Standout Character
Both Halogram and John stood out in their own ways this week. However, if I have to choose one, it has to be Halogram. He feels like a bridged version between the Hal who died and the Hal who still wanted to be a superhero. Halogram showed the arrogance, the emotion and that constant need to push forward and do the right thing. Despite technically not being Hal Jordan, he somehow felt like the version of Hal we’ve always wanted to see.
Favourite Moment
It has to be John and Halogram finally opening the vault. I expected there to be a Lantern inside to charge the Ring, but instead, we get something far more interesting: a portal to another planet. More importantly, this is the first time the series has actually taken us off-world. Lanterns has been an incredibly grounded show so far, so seeing John step through that portal and onto this eerie, seemingly dead planet felt like a huge moment for the series. The enormous structure above them, the flashing light in the distance and bones scattered throughout the city made the entire place feel unsettling. I loved this scene, and it finally gave us a glimpse at the much larger cosmic side of Green Lantern that has mostly been kept in the background until now.

Great
An episode with little to say, but everything to say at the same time. I honestly loved this episode. It felt grounded while still giving us a glimpse at something much bigger. The story pushed forward, questions were answered, and we're seeing the best versions of both John and Hal, despite Hal technically being the Halogram. It feels like the entire season is coming together in an incredible way. I also loved the eerie atmosphere throughout the episode; it constantly kept me on my toes, and I couldn't have been more fixated on the screen.
