Marvel’s Avengers vs Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – Which Game is Better?

Both games were not well received by fans, bringing huge backlash and poor reviews. However, both of these games are largely similar.

They both are a team-up game. Both live service. Both are looter shooters. Both are superhero franchises one being Marvel and the other being DC.

We’ll look at each game’s sections from the story to the content and score who wins. The game with the most overall points will be declared the winner. There will be 7 sections.

1. Story

Marvel’s Avengers: The story for Avengers was great. It’s one of the memorable things about the game for me. It’s one of the reasons why we initially gave it a good review because the story was fantastic. It’s what fell short for me after that.

Suicide Squad: In terms of the actual story for Suicide Squad, I feel like it’s on par with Avengers in terms of sheer entertainment. The R-rated and the better dialogue between the group feels slightly better. The fact we can play through the story with up to 4 players made the experience a bit better hence the reason why it’s a clear winner.

Winner: Suicide Squad

2. Customization

Marvel’s Avengers: You couldn’t customize any part of the skins except changing the entire thing.

Suicide Squad: You can change sections of the skins you have. With Deadshot, you can change his mask, take it off, change the color, and other small features. Both games are terrible with the customization but at least with Suicide Squad, you can edit it.

Winner: Suicide Squad

3. Content

Marvel’s Avengers: This game fell completely flat after the story. The content within this game wasn’t great but one of the things it did have was the hive missions and boss fights (although there were just 2 bosses in the beginning). It still had that competitive feeling to it.

Suicide Squad: The missions are rinse and repeat. There’s next to no variety in the missions, even during the story. Following the vehicle that moves is painfully obnoxious and I hate it. Even the enemy types are the same whereas at least in Avengers, you could fight human enemies in specific missions.

4. Microtransactions & battle pass

Marvel’s Avengers: Both are live service games so this is to be expected. Avengers gave you all of the challenge cards (effectively battle passes) for free and you only had to pay for the new heroes that came out after. You also had a bunch of suits for the heroes that you could purchase.

Suicide Squad: The battle pass is yet to come out but I don’t expect them to give this out for free like the Avengers did. I also think the microtransactions in this game are laughable. The skins in the store are bang average and offer nothing. This will likely improve but right now, this is a huge negative for Suicide Squad.

Winner: Avengers

5. Combat

Marvel’s Avengers: Square, square, square, ability, square, square, square, ability. It was boring. Granted, each hero played slightly differently but the end game was ultimately the same. It never felt satisfying besides the odd ability here and there. With the enemies being robots most of the time, the noise of Thor’s slow-moving hammer slaps is still engrained in my brain and I hate it.

Suicide Squad: One of the things that has been praised for this game is the combat and I agree. It’s oddly satisfying. The way you have to maneuver around, using traversal, abilities, guns, and grenades plus afflictions means you’re always thinking of your next move. The fact you can so quickly switch to traversal and attack, or drop to the floor and continue fighting is good. For that reason, there’s a clear winner and it’s not even close.

6. Loot and collectibles

Marvel’s Avengers: Imagine spending over an hour in a hive to get nothing. That’s what it felt like. The game never rewarded you and you never felt rewarded ever. You never got any items that you were thrown back with like; “this is amazing!”. I don’t think I said that sentence once. The loot was crap and the collectibles, well, I can’t even remember if there were any.

Suicide Squad: The looting system feels similar to how a looter shooter should be with the grades of items. You have rare, legendary, infamy, etc. It means when you pull something from a mission that shows red on the box, you know you’re in for a treat. The weapons and mods you put on can make a difference and enhance your play style. Plus, you even have the Riddler time trials to assist.

Winner: Suicide Squad

7. Skill trees

Marvel’s Avengers: Props where props are due. The skill trees in Avengers were one of the stronger sections of the game. You could switch up abilities to different ones to really cater to your preferences. As you leveled up, you felt stronger as a result which is how any game should be.

Suicide Squad: The skill tree in this game just straight-up sucks. You level up so now you have to hit a 50x combo to get the new thing you just got? Yeah, nope. This sucks Rocksteady. Sort it out. I want abilities such as longer and faster traversal, new abilities, and more powerful abilities, I don’t want to hit a 50x combo so I get 25% more fuel dump.

Winner: Avengers

8. Villains

Marvel’s Avengers: A.I.M were fine, nothing spectacular. It was enjoyable for what it was with M.O.D.O.K. but that’s as far as it goes.

Suicide Squad: Brainiac AND the Justice League? I don’t need to say much more than that. People complain that you’re killing the Justice League but logically, this makes sense. If the Justice League has been turned, you fully expect people to be trying to KILL them.

Winner: Suicide Squad

9. Trust moving forward

Marvel’s Avengers: Trust was lost quickly with Crystal Dynamics when they delayed Spider-Man after promising day 1. They also promised the world and didn’t even come close to delivering on any of those promises. The game was flat in the end-game state and never fully recovered. I expected better and the fans did too.

Suicide Squad: We haven’t had a chance to lose trust in Rocksteady yet for the post-game content but it can happen. Trust is already lost with Rocksteady after they opted for a live service game instead of another Batman game. I do believe Rocksteady will keep this game maintained as we already know Joker is coming soon.

Winner: Suicide Squad

Overall winner: Suicide Squad by 6 points to 3. I do agree with these and that Suicide Squad is the overall better game. There is some aspects of Avengers that are better but there’s still time for Rocksteady to iron out any issues and then there’s no reason this couldn’t become a 9-0 score.

P.S. We didn’t mention the graphics section because it would have been a draw.
