My Thoughts On The DC: Dark Legion Mobile Game

FunPlus International AG has released a brand new DC mobile game, which is needed considering the last decent DC game on mobile was DC Legends, which has since been shut down.

Dark Legion was released on the normal app stores, including iOS and Google Play, on March 14, 2025, so it’s relatively new, but it has been in beta for quite some time.

I’ve been playing the game for around 11 days. I’m in War Room 17 and I’m running a Justice League lineup at present of the following heroes;

  1. Superman
  2. Batman
  3. Green Lantern
  4. The Flash
  5. Shazam

I’ve spent around £70 since playing, which is crazy for a mobile game, but in all fairness, the opening few days were extremely addictive. It does, however, die down, though. In this article, I’ll explain what I like about the game and what I don’t like about the game.

Starting with the good stuff is the variety of modes. There’s a builder similar to Fallout Shelter but without the freedom of building. It’s still nice, though, and of course, the war room naturally takes longer with each upgrade, but always feels good when it’s complete. I’m currently waiting over 40 hours for War Room 18, but you can speed this up a bit with the drones.

Some of the modes are extremely enjoyable. Once you hit level 15, the Darkest Timeline unlocks. You only get 5 goes per week, but this rogue-like mode was where I had the most fun. You don’t control your normal squads and add as you go, deciding on what teams to build as you go through. Each go lasts around 15 minutes, but it’s fun to build teams you normally otherwise wouldn’t.

Some of the other modes add some challenge. The training simulator doesn’t reward a lot, but it does feel satisfying when you finally beat a room you’re stuck on. There are also added sections to it where you can only use specific characters, further showcasing the need to build more than just the normal lineup.

All in all, the game’s pretty good. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done with it. The variety of modes and builders is seemingly where the good stuff does end, though. I can’t see myself playing this game for long, in all fairness, not compared to how long I played DC Legends or currently Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. I’ve always enjoyed having a GACHA-type mobile game on my phone to play, but I don’t think Dark Legion is something long-term.

Currently, the shards are too scarce. How infrequent mythic shards are is off-putting. When there are 5 stars per level, but there are multiple levels, and it takes more and more shards to level up. You get to a point where it’s easy to stagnate without spending real money. Sometimes you can only expect 1 or 2 shards when you need 10/20/30+ to level up another star. It’s rough when you think of the long-term health of the game.

There are some GACHA games out there that are very forceful on the P2W aspect, If I’m being honest, I do believe Dark Legion is already at this point. They need to let up a little bit on the shards. Give more opportunities to get more of the crystals for the Superman event, and also provide more opportunities to get shards. Right now, it’s just a complete lottery.

The dollar revenue is completely nuts. I have over $70m on the game without anywhere to dump that into. They need to provide more options in the store for the cash, otherwise this is going to be one of those revenue streams that is completely pointless, even more so when the entire civilian base section of the base solely revolves around dollars.

Some people may dislike the War Room aspect, how long it takes, and whatnot, but I honestly don’t mind it. It makes sense for it to take longer, after all, it’s likely the developers do have plans long-term.

All in all, I like the game for the most part, but if the developers don’t let up on the leash just a little bit, then I fear more and more people will leave the game. I’m running a league, conveniently called Comic Universe, which at this moment is sitting at 88/90 people. I’ve already had around 40-50 people go inactive, and that’s in the 11 days I’ve been playing. Let that say something.

When I realised my inventory contained some valuable goodies, I loved it. They need to make those types of crates more viable. Events where they’re possible, otherwise there’s going to be no real sense of accomplishment.

I will continue to play, of course, as I’m enjoying myself and I’m enjoying the league I lead with my brother, but I hope this isn’t a game I play for a month and then put down due to frustration. It’s happened to many games before, making the wrong moves right at the beginning. I look forward to the roadmap and seeing what comes from there.

I will show you a gallery of my account below.
