The latest Star Wars project, “Star Wars: Starfighter,” has wrapped filming, Shawn Levy announces. The film is currently in post-production after completing principal photography. The film moves into the editing and effects phase.
Levy has talked publicly about rewriting and reworking the third act during production to improve the story, which has been a notable behind-the-scenes development. Matt Smith has been confirmed as one of the film’s villains.

The film is scheduled to release on May 28, 2027, part of Lucasfilm’s slate marking the franchise’s 50th anniversary year. Cast members like Mia Goth have spoken positively about working with Levy on the movie.
The movie will be a standalone movie, set roughly five years after The Rise of Skywalker, and not directly tied to the main Skywalker saga. Shawn Levy has spoken about how he’s been given creative freedom on the project, aiming for a fresh tone within Star Wars.
Cast includes Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Amy Adams, and more in original roles.
There have been some broader discussions on rewrites and reshoots during filming, which is stirring fan and media interest regarding how the final movie will shape up.
