Should Cal Kestis Show Up In The Mandalorian?

The Mandalorian is one of the best shows to come out in recent years, and it shows due to it’s soaring popularity.

Season 2 is now well underway, and in the last episode, we got a mention of Ashoka Tano. A Jedi seen in the animated shows, The Clone Wars and Rebels.

We know Ashoka will be played by her voice-playing counter-part, Rosario Dawson and it’s a fantastic move for the show going forward.

Now, we know the show is set around 5 years after Return of the Jedi. Around this time we know there still isn’t many Jedi left. Luke is around, but he’s either hunting down the Wayfinder or ready to begin training a new age of Jedi.

We now know Ashoka is still around, but what about Cal?

If you’re not an avid video game fan, Cal Kestis played by Cameron Monaghan in Stars Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which was released last November.

Also, if you haven’t played the game; spoilers are ahead. If you’d rather not know, click here for a random article or click off the page.

In the game, we know Cal survived Order 66 and is set between episodes 3 & 4. His mission is simple. He’s searching for a Jedi Holocron. This essentially lists the names of force-sensitive children, in a bid to restore the Jedi Order.

In his journey, we see Cal become a Jedi Knight, whilst facing members of Darth Vader’s Inquisitors, and also Vader himself.

We know that Cal fails in his bid to restore the Jedi Order, as it’s Luke that does this after Return of the Jedi. Cal destroyed the Holocron to attempt to stop the Emperor and Vader from finding the children, so it makes sense.

Cal’s next iteration of the story largely depends on what the developers of the game decide to do, but this does open the door for a potential appearance in The Mandalorian.

Cameron is a fantastic actor in live-action as well, displaying an exceptional performance in the hit TV series, Gotham. He’s also only 27 years old, so it’s more than plausible Disney may want to bring him into the live-action fold, and what a better place to introduce him there, other than The Mandalorian.

We know Fallen Order 2 most likely won’t be here until Fall 2022, and that’s the best-case scenario. It would also crush the vast majority of theories out there that Cal will die at the end of Fallen Order 2, and it means this way, by bringing him in, the developers will have much more freedom to write him in.

During the original series, we don’t know much except following Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca. There’s a huge galaxy out there to be explored, so maybe Cal was out there somewhere. He could have even helped Luke during Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, so the possibilities are endless.

The Mandalorian is that good of a show because of the way the show is written, it feels like Star Wars. I don’t believe the show should just bring in Cal for the sake of bringing in a Jedi, I believe they would have to write it in a way that makes sense. Similar to the way they’re doing the Ashoka stuff so far. Including Boba Fett and the Nite Owls.

For those that have played the game, Cal is a likeable character. He displays similar characteristics to Luke Skywalker in wanting to help, and stop the forces of evil clouding their every move. I guess in many ways, I just want the character to do well in the more mainstream light, and also casual fans.

The sequel trilogy isn’t well-liked, so by using this timeline they have so much to work with. Including the cast from Rebels, Cal, and many, many others. I would just love to see it.

What do you think? Do you think Cal should be left to the games only, or do you think it could be a great shout in bringing Cameron in live-action? Let me know down in the comments below.
