VisionQuest Is Making A Serious Case for the Best Show of 2026

2026 has been a great year for comic-book shows, although it feels like a quieter year compared to previous years. We’ve had some absolute powerhouses, including The Boys, Daredevil: Born Again, Fallout, Maul: Shadow Lord, and more. However, it’s VisionQuest that’s making a serious case for being the best of them all.

I’ll be completely honest. I had very little hope for VisionQuest initially. WandaVision kicked off Marvel’s Disney+ journey in spectacular fashion and was a fantastic TV show. Then Agatha All Along came along, and for me, it really hurt what had otherwise been a promising trilogy of shows. However, VisionQuest has brought it right back.

We knew the show would explore Vision’s journey following the events of WandaVision, while Agatha All Along had already set the stage for the continuing story of Billy and Tommy Maximoff. What I wasn’t expecting was just how brilliantly VisionQuest would bring everything together.

We’re also seeing several familiar AI programmes taking human form, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., J.A.R.V.I.S., Ultron, E.D.I.T.H., and others. It’s one of those concepts that, when you explain it to someone, sounds absolutely awful on paper. Yet somehow, it works incredibly well.

Paul Bettany is absolutely crushing his role as Vision, as he always has done. However, his performance when Ultron takes control at the end of Episode 4 was exceptional. Bettany deserves all the plaudits in the world for how effortlessly he manages to portray two completely different personalities within the same character.

What makes VisionQuest so special, though, is that we’re watching Vision slowly rediscover what it means to feel again. We’re witnessing the progression of a character who is essentially trying to become the Vision we once knew. The Vision who loved Wanda, who had a family, and who possessed the Mind Stone. This isn’t simply about another superhero finding his place in the world. It’s about someone trying to understand who he really is and whether he can ever become the person he once was.

And when you introduce his own son into that equation, it becomes even more meaningful. Vision is beginning to demonstrate the emotional connection he once had, particularly through his desire to protect Tommy. It’s something that makes complete sense considering their history, even if this version of Vision doesn’t fully understand those feelings himself.

That’s what I love most about this series. VisionQuest could easily have been another show centred around Vision flying around, firing lasers and defeating villains. Instead, we’re getting something far more personal, exploring his identity, his emotions and the family he once had.

I’m also incredibly invested in the wider Maximoff family. Vision, Billy, Tommy and, hopefully, Wanda. I would absolutely love to see Wanda return before the series concludes, bringing the family together again. Whether that happens remains to be seen, but the potential is certainly there. In theory, Marvel could even explore another series focused entirely on the family if VisionQuest concludes in a way that makes it possible.

Of course, we’re only halfway through the eight-episode series, and there’s still plenty of room for things to take a downward turn. However, based on what we’ve seen so far, Marvel would have to do something monumental to completely derail the momentum this show has built.

There are still so many possibilities heading into the final four episodes. We could see Wanda return, Billy and Tommy reunite, or even receive a tease of what’s to come in Avengers: Doomsday. Whatever happens, VisionQuest has already exceeded every expectation I had going into it. The storytelling has been fantastic, the performances have been exceptional, and the emotional weight behind Vision’s journey has made it genuinely compelling television.

Is it too early to call VisionQuest the best show of 2026? Absolutely. But if the final four episodes can maintain this level of quality, I genuinely believe it’ll be difficult to argue against it. Either way, I’m incredibly excited for another double-episode drop tonight. I’ll have my Episode 5 review out tomorrow, followed by Episode 6 on Thursday.

For now, VisionQuest is making a serious case for the best show of 2026, and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
