For decades, Gambit was one of Marvel’s most recognizable mutants despite barely appearing in live-action films. Thanks to the animated series “X-Men: The Animated Series”, he became a fan favorite through his charm cajun personality, kinetic card powers, and the romance with Rogue. While fans saw the popularity of characters such as Wolverine, Cyclops, and Storm, Gambit carved out his own loyal following through animation alone.

There was a planned Gambit film that spent years in development hell before being cancelled. Rather than fading into obscurity, fan demand grew louder. Every rumor about the project reignited excitement, proving the character remained popular even without a completed movie.

After many years, fans got to witness the return of Channing Tatum as Gambit in the Deadpool & Wolverine movie; audiences embraced him instantly. I love Ryan for bringing Channing into the MCU.

Long before superhero romances became a major plot point in superhero projects, Gambit and Rogue had already become one of Marvel’s most beloved couples. The relationship that blends trust, sacrifice, heartbreak, and unwavering loyalty makes it one of the most emotional cornerstones of the X-Men franchise.

From requests for a solo movie, appearances in video games, returns in animation, or hopes for an MCU debut, Gambit has consistently trended whenever X-Men discussions begin. Very few Marvel characters who haven’t headlined a blockbuster film have maintained this level of fan enthusiasm over decades.
Seeing the return of Gambit in live-action, portrayed by the incredible Channing Tatum, was something I looked forward to for years, and seeing how well he was received and finding out he would once again return to Avengers: Doomsday makes me one happy fan.
