The CW’s Arrowverse Shows Ranked Worst To Best So Far

It’s been a tough gig for The CW, especially when it comes down to the COVID19 pandemic that’s ravaged the entire planet. Obviously every studio, person, business, etc have also suffered. The CW has managed to do quite well with maintaining their shows to a professional standard. The schedule is messy right now, but we suspect this will return to normality towards the end of the year.

So far since the shows restarted, we have 5 shows currently ongoing present with more to come soon including DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Stargirl, Naomi, and potentially Painkiller.

Supergirl and Black Lightning are both on their final seasons after The CW announced the shows will not be renewed after their respective seasons, and when you look at our rankings – it’s weird that they’re both on the opposite ends of the scale at the moment.

Let’s get into it;

5. Black Lightning – Average Rating 7.5/10

It comes to something when the only 10/10 episode Black Lightning has had for quite some time was the backdoor Pilot episode for Painkiller, which has been greenlit for a standalone series. However, Black Lightning has been immensely poor and it has been for a while now. It’s even worse considering the potential the show had when the Pilot aired back in January 2018.

The first problem for me was the writers claimed he wasn’t part of the Arrowverse, it’s the first mistake straight away, considering the Arrowverse is great when it’s done right. Nothing in The CW superhero, Arrowverse TV side be away from the other heroes and shows. It sets up amazing crossovers, something this show has failed to do. Even in the Crisis episode, Black Lightning was one of the poorest characters in the entire event, even if he had the potential to do fantastic things. The show is on its last season, and I think it deserves to end. It’s a shame considering Cress Williams is a great actor.

4. Batwoman – Average Rating 7.7/10

Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder in Batwoman — WB — The CW

I have had the displeasure of watching Batwoman this season. It’s difficult to even sugar coat this, but it’s been trash. Simple as. The story is still so focused on Kate Kane, yet Ruby Rose left the role after season 1. They brought Javicia in as Ryan Wilder (a character not even seen in the comics before), and instead of actually focusing on Ryan, the story is still so stuck on Kate it’s ridiculous.

We’re 11 episodes in, and not a single episode has been memorable yet. Alice is bringing nothing to the story, as is Ryan and the entire Bat team. The action is subpar and embarrassing, and the story is so fractured it’s going to be a while before it gets right. Thankfully, Wallis Day has been cast as Kate Kane so hopefully, they can close the door on this story once and for all. It’s no wonder the ratings are so low.

3. The Flash – Average Rating 8.4/10

The Flash has been iffy for me so far. It’s had its moments, but it’s nowhere near the powerhouse it used to be. When you re-watch seasons 1 and 2, then watch this season so far – it’s so perfectly clear the show has currently lost its way. It’s not to say that I don’t still enjoy it, but I no longer get excited about the show anymore. There’s a lot of clustered arcs that they need to center and keep it like that.

I think the villains have had something to do with The Flash in recent years. None of them are impactful in any way or have any real connection to Barry like Zoom, Reverse Flash, or Savitar did. This is one of the reasons I am screaming for them to bring Godspeed in as a full-blown villain because, in the comics, there’s a lot that happens between Barry and August. It needs an injection of something soon, because whilst it’s not bad, it’s just not amazing either. For me as a viewer, and in my opinion – The Flash needs a solid villain in order to thrive.

2. Supergirl – Average Rating 8.8/10

One of the most surprising entries for me, especially given Supergirl belonged in the bin for so many seasons – it was THAT bad. However, this season so far has shocked me. It’s gone away from the DEO nonsense and focused on the actual team. The storyline is set and known, and it’s all making perfect sense. All of the characters are playing a proper part, and it’s building up to Kara being in the Phantom Zone pretty well, and I hope when she does return to Earth, it’s a good comeback.

Obviously, this has time to change, Supergirl has had strong starts in the past and then went poor as it progressed, but 5 episodes in, it’s been really good. I can’t even remember the last time I actually sat down and wanted to watch Supergirl, but this season currently has me in that mindset.

1. Superman and Lois – Average Rating 9.5/10

Tyler Hoechlin as Superman – Elizabeth Tullock as Lois Lane in Superman & Lois – The CW

Despite only being 5 episodes in, Superman & Lois has been incredibly impressive straight out of the gate. The story features an older Superman, in recent times this is vastly different from what we have seen from the Man of Steel in live-action. Clark is married to Lois and they have 2 children, where the story focuses around Jordan having powers that have been genetically passed down by Clark.

What makes this series so different is that it doesn’t just solely focus on Superman and him doing Superman things, it actually focuses on family, with Lois getting her own chance to shine. That’s what I like so much about what we have seen so far, everybody within the show is getting the spotlight and it’s not just only centered on Superman. A great start to the show, and I can’t wait for the next episodes. We can expect the next episode on the 18th of May.

Obviously, we know some shows have had more episodes than others, I wanted to make that clear. I will do a part 2 to this at some point to see the difference, but I think for my own clarification I wanted to rank the shows from where we are today.
