Top 5 Villains Who Should be the Main Antagonist of the DC Extended Universe.

5. Brainiac: I am baffled as to why Brainiac has not been the villain in a Superman movie yet. Is there some rule in which every live-action Superman movie has to use Lex Luthor or General Zod as their main villains but no one else? The awful sequel Superman 3 even almost used Brainiac as the main villain before they decided on a completely original character who was nothing more than a Lex Luthor knockoff (though given how Superman 3 turned out, it’s perhaps a blessing that they didn’t use Brainiac). Brainiac is a villain with limitless potential so it is rather frustrating that DC seems to have no interest in using him. With that said, using one of Superman’s greatest foes as the main villain of the DC Extended Universe would be a fantastic move. If there is one thing about Brainiac that always stays consistent it would be his ability to always come back. Not only is he a powerful threat, but he is also a very consistent one. This could be a villain that would not only be a fantastic villain for a Superman movie but also one for the entire DCEU as well. His vast knowledge could prove to be a huge hurdle for the heroes of the DCEU to overcome. Any time Brainiac has shown up in the past it has always been treated like a big deal. Seeing him go up against the Justice League as their final and most dangerous threat would be a great opportunity and finally give the character his due.

4. Trigon: The demonic father of the Teen Titan Raven is often regarded as one of the scariest DC villains for how powerful he is. Basically the Devil in everything but name, Trigon would be a fantastic overarching villain. I remember seeing this character in the Teen Titans cartoon and he was absolutely terrifying. There is just this feeling of that as soon as Trigon gets what he wants, he would be unstoppable. Black Adam gave us a brief glimpse into the demonic world with the film’s main antagonist Sabbac. While Trigon was already done in live-action with the series Titans, the show really did not do him justice. Putting him in the DC Extended Universe as its main antagonist would be very exciting and can raise the stakes for our heroes. Putting Trigon in the DCEU could also put a big focus on characters outside the Justice League, most notably Raven who is a character who we have yet to see in a movie yet. Trigon would also be a great main villain for the DCEU not just because he’s super powerful but also because he’s a supernatural threat. It would serve as a great contrast to Marvel, who have used cosmic themed villains as their overarching antagonists with Thanos and Kang the Conqueror.

3. Vandal Savage: The immortal tyrant Vandal Savage is one villain who I really think doesn’t get enough credit. After Darkseid, Savage is arguably the Justice League’s most recurring and powerful threat. There is so much you can do with this character. Like with Brainiac, Vandal Savage always has a way of coming back. Due to being immortal, anytime somebody kills Savage he always resurrects and continues to antagonize our heroes immediately after he dies the first time. What makes it scarier is that he has an even bigger and more dangerous plan every time he comes back from the dead. There is so much you can do with him as the main antagonist of the DC Extended Universe. With a villain who is infamous for leading the most evil armies in human history, making Savage someone you hate would be very easy, especially when he is a character who has associated himself with groups like the Nazi Party to try and take over the world. Savage could be used as the Justice League’s arch enemy like how Thanos was used at the end of the Infinity Saga in the MCU. Having him scheming in the background is very much in line with Vandal Savage’s character and could be used to great effect if he is ever decided to be the overarching threat of the DCEU. Admittedly, Savage did appear as the main villain for the first season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow played by Casper Crump to a rather poor reception. However, with this being the DCEU and not the Arrowverse, you could actually do him again and actually right this time with better writers and a more fitting actor.

2. Darkseid: This choice should be obvious. Whenever somebody thinks of the biggest threat in the DC universe, Darkseid is almost always the first one that comes to their minds and rightfully so. Every time the character has appeared in movies and tv shows, it is always treated like a big deal. The stakes are always immensely high whenever Darkseid shows up. Not only is he one of the most dangerous threats to the Justice League, but he is also one of their most hated. Superman in particular has a special grudge towards Darkseid. That already makes him a great choice to be the biggest villain in the DC Extended Universe. With his massive army on Apokolips, Darkseid could prove to be nearly unstoppable. The Justice League already had trouble with Steppenwolf in the DCEU and he was regarded as Darkseid’s most disgraced and least valued henchman. Imagine just how tough of a time they would have when going up against Darkseid and his entire army. Darkseid actually was originally going to be set up as the main threat of the DCEU with Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Unfortunately it does not look like that will be happening anymore. However, there is still a chance to revive those plans and actually have him as the main threat of the DCEU once again.

1. The Anti-Monitor: If there is any villain who deserves the classification of the biggest threat of all time in the DC universe, it would be the Anti-Monitior. The evil half of The Monitor has rarely been used in DC Comics, not because the writers don’t find him interesting, but because you will never be able to top the impact he made in Crisis on Infinite Earths, the most important and iconic event of all time in DC’s history. Nothing was ever the same after he went up against the heroes of the DC Multiverse. Of the few times he has appeared since, it is always treated as a massive event. The reason I decided to put the Anti-Monitor over Darkseid is because while we have not seen the latter truly come into the spotlight yet, most people would be expecting him to be the overarching villain of the DCEU. However, if DC really wants to stand out from Marvel, they should use the Anti-Monitor. He is actually a villain who we have not seen before in a comic book movie and that includes both in the DCEU and the MCU. We did see the Anti-Monitor appear in the Arrowverse crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths played by LaMonica Garrett. However, unlike his appearance in the crossover, we could actually see the Anti-Monitor played by a more established actor and given the physical appearance of a design that actually suits the villain (a higher budget would also naturally help). The DCEU was apparently going to lead into Crisis on Infinite Earths as well before Walter Hamada stepped down as the head of DC’s film division. I still think using the Anti-Monitor would be a perfect choice for the DCEU’s overarching villain. Not only is he vastly different from most villains but he is easily the most powerful. There would be no better choice than the villain who nearly brought the entire multiverse to an end.
