Which Superhero Movie Won The Box Office In 2025?

2025 has been a relatively decent year for superheroes. We’ve seen Marvel attempt to begin their Avengers build-up up and we’ve also seen the DC Universe reset.

There have been 4 films released in 2025, with nothing else planned for a 2025 release. Blade was initially destined for November, but we all know how that’s gone, so I suspect this will be it for the rest of the year.

2026 is shaping up to be great, though. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Woman of Tomorrow, and also Avengers: Doomsday. I suspect the box office figures will look completely different by the end of 2025.

Please note, I will be using Box Office Mojo for the figures.

4. Thunderbolts*

Release date: 1st May
Total: $382,436,917

It’s sad to see Thunderbolts* at the lowest point on this list. I feel like there were too many people who wrote this off before even giving it a chance. I adored this movie. I thought Marvel’s (kind of) answer to DC’s Suicide Squad worked pretty well. For me, it fully showed how much we’ve fallen since Endgame with the lack of Avengers around. It’s something already addressed in Brave New World, but Thunderbolts* did a better job at cascading us forward as it’s needed due to the up and down run Marvel has had since Endgame.

3. Captain America: Brave New World

Release date: 14th February
Total: $415,101,577

Brave New World got a lot of backlash. Some of it was pretty undeserving in my opinion. The film wasn’t horrible, it wasn’t the worst MCU project around, and I thought, for an opening movie, it was better than The First Avenger. Brave New World for me showed its entire hand from the first trailer. Red Hulk would’ve been a better reveal in the movie, as after that, there wasn’t anything to even remotely get excited about. The MCU is vast, it’s massive, when you’re only decent cameo is Bucky, which was over quickly, we have an issue. I’m hoping for better with our new Captain America in future projects.

2. The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Release date: 24th July
Total: $509,413,150

Credit: The Fantastic Four: First Steps // Disney & Marvel

A brilliant iteration of The Fantastic Four, which has now been done three times over in the 2000s. I loved this. I thought it was the best Marvel film out of the 3. The dynamic and the cast choices worked really well throughout, fully cementing them as major units as we push forward to the eventual showdown against Doom.

1. Superman

Release date: 11th July
Total: $613,022,360

Credit: DC // Superman

I’ll be honest, I did expect Superman to flop. A year prior to this, I would’ve never expected to see Superman be a success, especially beating 3 major Marvel titles and coming out on top. This is what DC needed the most. They needed the reset, they needed the hit, and they desperately needed someone at the helm who cared for the franchise. It’s a good start, and I’m hoping the momentum continues.
