It looks like we have our Hal Jordan. Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights Emmy Winner) is set to play Hal Jordan in the HBO DC Adaptation.
Kyle Chandler is set to play the iconic Green Lantern hero in the series. The show will be the first series role for the Friday Night Lights actor since Showtimes 2022 drama Super Pumped.
Lanterns, which saw the series get a straight-to-series order in June after years of being stuck in development purgatory. The series comes from Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost), and Eisner Award-winning comics writer Tom King.
The trio is co-writing and executive-producing the series, with Mundy serving as the showrunner. The show falls under the HBO banner and is currently casting and finding the directors for the episodes.
The series is also looking to start shooting from next January to June in Atlanta. Lanterns is being described as having a gritty, True Detective vibe as it focuses on Jordan reluctantly mentoring a younger lantern in John Stewart. One of the first black superheroes in DC publishing history.
The story sees the two characters investigating an Earth-bound murder with larger implications. While according to sources, state that DC and the producers are looking for a young, more fresh-faced actor for the role of Stewart to play opposite an older and bigger name.
Josh Brolin was linked with the Jordan role before passing on the project. While rumors started circling that actors such as Chris Pine and Ewan McGregor were on the list to play Jordan. Although this was just fan-casting.
