Pennyworth “Julie Christie” Review

Season 1 Episode 7 “While Martha and Thomas confront Crowley over his strange party and the return of Patricia, Alfred and the lads track down the identity of a wanted killer.”

*Please note; the show was in the midst of forget. At the time of reviewing the show, it was all hands on deck with the new site, and we admit we lost focus a bit. This is the only show we’re playing catch up on from March 2019 at the creation of the site as all shows on our site run from then. We will have the final episodes finished in the coming days.*

What I Liked

1. Oh, how I’ve missed Alfred, Dave Boy and Bazza. The old woman just shows up at the door and has 3 handguns pointing in her face. They really don’t care, I love it.

2. I love the scene with Alfred and his father with Esme’s ring. We’ve seen their troubled relationship throughout, but this bond is beginning to show that it is fact strong.

3. It’s hilarious watching Thomas Wayne take the reality ground with Crowley. Crowley wants his soul for the devil, and the way Thomas is acting with the entire thing is making me laugh. Especially when Martha and Patricia bring in the fact he’s a member of the CIA.

4. Well, Thomas almost goes full insane. As he watches the movie in the basement briefly, he snaps and beats the guy up sitting behind him and nearly strangles him to death. This caught me off guard pretty quickly.

What I Disliked

1. This entire plot with Thomas and Patricia just seems pointless. It’s not drafting anything to the ark. I still stand by my previous episode review that the party with Martha was also boring. The fallout of her blackout is the same situation here. I’m struggling to stay interested during the opening few scenes.

2. Again with the smart aspect of Martha. She knows fine well the dangers from Crowley and decides to go up against him by herself until Thomas offered to help. It seems odd that she would be so impulsive considering she’s been extremely tactful during the first few episodes of the show.

Favourite Moment

Alfred getting aggressive really is the most enjoyable characteristic that Jack Bannon portrays so perfectly. As he goes to the war veteran clubhouse, instantly he gets on bad stead with the doorman. As he leaves Alfred offers him to take a swing, but the way he does it, the way he says it was just fantastic.

Standout Character

I’m going to give this week to Thomas Wayne. Albeit the ark with them currently is the most uninteresting of the entire season, his character this week was great. We see that Thomas was no Saint that Bruce Wayne eventually sees him as. We see the dark turn that he can take.

Verdict

A pretty boring episode if I’m being truthful here. Nothing happened, barely any progress to the story, and the lack of action here was greatly missed. Especially considering what we’re used to seeing. The last couple of episodes have been pretty poor, so I’m hoping it picks up in the final episodes of the season.

Rating 6/10
