Should We Be Worried About The Fantastic Four: First Steps Movie?

Recently, it was revealed on social media that a public test screening for Marvel’s upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps movie happened throughout the week, and details and comments have started to come online about the movie.

Obviously, when stuff like this happens, always take it with a pinch of salt because dozens of people attend the screenings with only a small portion feeling the need to share their thoughts online with outlets and reporters, usually these are the ones who did not like what they saw.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The InSneider’s Jeff Sneider said that Sinners had received a “mixed” response in test screenings and said that Warner Bros. should be worried. Sinners sits at a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and has made over $340 million worldwide with a $90 million budget.

He also has spoken about The Fantastic Four: First Steps screening and had this to say;

My source called it both ‘mid’ and ‘meh,’ and ‘not that bad, but not that good, either. ‘ More concerningly, they said it featured weak character development and bad CGI, though the latter issue will certainly be addressed over the next month. In general, Marvel doesn’t do public test screenings unless they’re worried — that was the case with Eternals, The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Captain America: Brave New World.

While I initially heard that Marvel was high on First Steps internally,” Sneider continues, “a separate industry source who has not seen the finished film himself has sounded the alarm in recent weeks that the film is ‘a mess’ and ‘a huge problem movie. That said, it sounds like Ralph Ineson’s Galactus went over well with the crowd last night, which is encouraging, seeing as how Marvel has had a villain problem of late.”

While, again, always take this with a grain of salt. Other comments have stated that the movie is unfinished and the first act is shaky, but it gets better once Galactus shows up.

Should we be worried? Personally, I think not. I think it’s somewhat the “norm” to hate on anything that gets put out from Marvel. I remember when the trailer for Thunderbolts came out, and it got so much hate, and that movie was fantastic.
