What I Liked
1. We never truly see Isaac’s claim to fame when it comes to the WLF, but the series does show this. He’s part of FEDRA and betrays them in a brutal moment. It’s great to see these little moments come together so we truly get an understanding of where people came from.
2. Say what you will but I liked the music shop sequence. Ellie stumbles across a guitar and starts playing/singing Take On Me by A-ha. It was one of those moments that makes you realise how special music would be in those times. Bella Ramsey did a great job here.
3. Isaac has one of the Scar’s tied up and he’s seemingly torturing the guy. This is one of those moments where they make you feel sorry for the group, last episode did the same but as this will progress you’ll begin to see how nasty, vindictive and brutal that group is. This is a tiny aspect compared to what we see the Seraphites do in the game to others including innocent people. This was deserved. The very next scene you’ll see exactly why.
4. Dina and Ellie head to the TV station because it has WLF plastered all over the building. What we see upon entry is truly terrifying as a result of the Seraphites. WLF members to get to the station, but of course, Ellie and Dina can’t do much except try to escape. It’s got some decent action in as Ellie uses her knife and is saved by Dina with a single shot. A very good sequence of events.
5. As the pair escapes, they struggle against a bollard. Ellie gets through, but Dina can’t, resulting in an Infected getting to her. Ellie sticks her arm out and she’s bitten. Dina is obviously in complete disbelief. It’s not until they eventually reach the theatre that Ellie explains she’s immune at gunpoint.
What I Disliked
Nothing to report this week.
Favorite Moment
As Dina and Ellie head to the subway station to escape, WLF heads in behind them. Unfortunately for both groups, it’s not just them. This station is filled with Infected. WLF are hit first as they attempt to hold them off, but there are far too many, and they’re overwhelmed. Dina and Ellie instead opt for the clever route and try to escape through the derelict trains. It’s honestly terrifying, like a true horror. It’s the same in the game with this entire sequence. You feel the fear and the intensity in the same way.
Standout Character
It’s a tough one this week to give this as I felt like Dina and Ellie stood out equally but for me, Dina JUST edges it. Isabela Merced’s acting when Ellie is bitten was exceptional and for that reason alone, she thoroughly deserves the standout character of the episode. Fantastic.
Verdict
I feel like this episode stayed true to the game in many ways. I liked it. It was action-packed with true horror moments, especially the subway section. We’ve finally reached the theatre now, which is where things start to go south. It’s great to finally see the duo come face to face with the WLF group for the first time since Joel’s death.
